A few years ago, when I was a bit younger I dismissed The Swan as just a grungers pub and not for me -happily I gave it another go at the start of last year, and have been going back regularly ever since.
The main attraction of this pub is its' eclectic mix of its’(mostly young) punters and loyal regulars, rockers, indie kids, metalers, and even one or two chavy kids all mix happily and provide a great atmosphere, without a hint of drama or trouble brewing. Infact, despite some eye-catching characters, I have never seen any genuine crosswords. The ceiling is ridiculously low, which can be a problem, but the fact that it is one of the only pubs in the area to have two pool tables makes up for it. One is located in the terraced garden, which is a decent size, and with music being piped out to it, is always busy regardless how cold the weather is!
Nothing amazing or unusual with the drinks selection, but the prices are more than reasonable. There is a jukebox, but more often than not, the background music is pretty heavy rock/metal. Overall, The Swan is a nice place to come to get you in the mood on a Friday or Saturday night. Or a couple chill out pints on a Sunday afternoon.
