Cock & Lion is a traditional English pub that serves a variety of beers, traditional ale, wines, spirits and food. There is also a sports bar upstairs with pool tables and juke box, and they televise major sporting events. They can cater for private parties of up to 50 people and provide outside seating on the pavement.

I have just seen the previous review, about****and Lion Pub. I have to strongly disagree with what has been written. I have been a regular customer for the past 2 years, since new landlords took over, frequenting the pub with my colleagues. On 12th September we arrived in the bar, at lunchtime, which was packed, so we were sent upstairs to the restaurant but again it was busy. The waitress kindly informed us that the kitchen was closed at the present time, so we had a drink and 20mins later we were able to eat downstairs in the bar. As always the food was of a high standard, being freshly made and once again we had a very enjoyable experience.

This previous review was fairly harsh as the landlords and the staff are always helpful and very friendly.

I went to the****& Lion today for lunch with my work colleagues. Upon arriving we were asked to order lunch upstairs. The bar upstairs was extremely disorganised and no one really seemed to know what was going on. Our orders were finally (after a long wait) taken. 10 minutes later, one persons order arrived and then one of the bar staff came back with our cash for the rest of us who had ordered saying that having despite taken our orders, they could no longer process them as the kitchen was too busy due to 15 people arriving for lunch. Surely in this day and age a pub should be prepared to be busy on a Friday lunchtime and be able to cater for more than 15 people when it seats a lot more people than that. At one point, my colleague who did get food was asked not to take more than one napkin as they were expensive! We asked to speak with the land lady who was very unhelpful and offered no form of compensation, instead taking the approach of being rude and abrasive and telling us that we did not understand how the catering business worked! DO NOT EAT HERE!!
