All In London Review
Soho's friendliest pub? Possibly.
The Crown and Chairmen has smartened itself up in recent years but it retains the same buzzing atmosphere that it has always had. Located on Dean Street in the very heart of Soho, this is a pub that has no shortage of loyal followers. The self-appointed ‘friendliest pub in Soho’ isn’t bragging with its decree - it really is that friendly.
Spread over two floors, you’ll find the place filled with Soho’s many media types, the odd tourists and an unlikely cast of regulars. We can remember a long time ago when this was one of the places that first introduced Frulli strawberry beer to Soho and while tastes for exotic ales have diversified from there, The Crown and Two Chairmen has kept up. If you’re in Soho and struggling to find something other than a pint of Kronenbourg or a Samuel Smith pub, this is the place. Draught beers include Brooklyn Lager, Sierra Nevada, Meantime, Brew Dog, Vedett and Camden Brewery offerings as well as a small range of cider and wine.
No pub could serve such a diverse selection of ale without matching it with some food and The Crown and Two Chairmen makes an effort with its menu. The range of upmarket pub food includes wild salmon fish cakes, aged rib-eye steak and gnocchi and mushrooms along with other classics.
Beyond the food and drink (and that famous friendly atmosphere, don’t forget), The Crown and Two Chairmen shows live sporting events and hosts an excellent weekly quiz on Monday nights.
