You heard it here first, Forest Gate is on the up and it won’t be long until they’re making buildings out of gold and changing all the house numbers into names! Okay, so maybe you didn’t hear it here first and maybe the Forest Gate builders will be sticking to bricks and mortar for the time being, but we’re calling it all the same. Everybody says that you can tell when an area’s fortunes are on the rise when coffee shops and delis start opening. Well, we think it’s all about the pubs and it just so happens that Forest Gate has itself a hip new boozer to call its own.
The refurbished Railway Tavern has since become the Forest Tavern. Located opposite Forest Gate Station, the new pub has swapped whatever came before for a hip look that’s all dangling glowy light bulbs, golf club wall art, exposed brickwork, excellent music, fine beers and expensive spirits. Tables are plentiful, the windows are large, providing the pub with plenty of light and best of all, there’s a palpable positivity to the place. It may still be early days but the Forest Tavern is a welcome addition to the area.
Keeping up with the trend for micro brew beers and indie breweries, the Forest Tavern has a wide array of ales and lagers. You’ll find Crate Brewery, Meantime, Camden Town Brewery and a host of other rotating ales and craft brews on tap. Plans for a restaurant are at an advanced stage but there is no food being served at the time of writing.
The Forest Tavern might be a little too far east to venture out to unless there’s an ulterior motive but for locals it brings in a new wave of diversity on a sea of craft ales.
