We go there cos its close to work...but really the bar staff could to with courses in smiling, politeness and general good British manners.
I understand the the staff are from abroad and maybe it's ok to be miserable working in bars and restaurants in their home countries, but in the UK we'd like a bit more service. Simple 'may i help you', 'thank you' and '...please' with a curtious smile won't hurt.

Went to Cape for a bite to eat with a couple of friends after work tonight and yet again the wait for the food was excessive and they did not appear to be busy. I had to chase up the food after 35 minutes and 2 of our dishes came out after another 5 minutes or so. The third dish took another chase and 10 further minutes.

The pasta dish was not great, it tasted like it had been re-heated a number of times and the garlic bread was burnt and did not taste of garlic.

We have been to Cape several times and the wait for food can be excessive. On one occasion over an hour. That time the manager refunded us our money.

I can't see that we will be going back in there for food again, but for drinks it is a nice environmnent

We did indeed have a lovely time at the Cape and the service was excellent. We all have been to The Cape before, either as a team or individually which is why we thought it would be perfect to go again for lunch.
Thanks for your efficient service & for making our lunch enjoyable.

All the very best!

I’ve been to take Cape on more than one occasion and it never disappoints. I never have to wait for food longer than 20 min and if its busy I make sure I call too pre order because my brake is only 1h. The thing that I probably like the most is the staff. They always make sure my food is ok and that I get it they way I like it. The only thing I would suggest would be probably putting the candles out more often. It can get a little dark there sometimes. It’s also a shame they don’t have an outside area because the place would be 10 out of 10. I would definitely recommend.

the area that we was given was perfect for the amount of people that turned up to the pub and also the food that we ordered was very good.

We all had a good nice all in all, which was also down to the staff and the atmosphere that the pub generates. The only moan I have is that the football score on the night was different.

Many thanks

A very nice pub for a weekday lunch or Friday evening drink. The menu is not particularly South African (it has only one item that actually has any truly South African products in it). That said, it is a great City pub and an excellent venu to watch sports.

I didn’t know they were so busy for sport. If you book a table they will give you a really good seats to see the big screen. It’s worth it, especially for the bigger games. I highly recommend.

I recently visited the Cape with my friends and I must say we had a really good time. We all enjoyed the good value for money food and found the staff really nice and helpful. We especially liked that there’s a DJ on a Friday night, that really build the atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back.

I have just had lunch there today 1/08/08 and I regret to say that the kitchen staff must have gone into meltdown, it was taking them a minimum of 45 mins (and I am being very generous) to bring the order out. The menu is not complicated either hire more staff or a new chef. The waiters were unable to help and were trying to fob people off. Thanks for looking into this.

I love the Prodigal, it fulfills all my wants and needs, for food and a good pint, during and after office hours. If only it was open the weekend, I would travel up just to go in there!

I especially like the bar staff. Princess serves a great beer as does her sidekick, Agnes. I like Agnes a lot....

The night clud itself wasn't too bad, however the night was made unbearable by this MadDog swanning around the place like he owned it. I think he was calling himself Titan..?
Anyway the atmosphere was good, but this guy was your consumate drunken stud, unbearable, but the chicks were just drawn to his manly bravado. Didn't give the rest of us Mr. Averages a look in. I just hope he didn't use and abuse the girls too much.

Would like to say a big thank you to all the crew at PRODIGAL. It's not very often i get to travel to London, but PRODIGAL is always on my list of venues. The live DJ's on friday 16th played a cracking mix of funky house and soul that made my crowds night a great one. Keep it up guys and Happy Christmas

I have been going to the Prodigal nearly every Friday for lunch with colleagues. It is always busy but we are never informed of a wait on food. Today it was 35 minutes. They have table service but you have to get up to leave to get their attention to pay the bill. 3 weeks ago I found a beer fly on my side salad. I was offered a compensatory drink which I could not have as I had to return to work. Today a colleague found a live slug in her salad. It completely put us off our food and the manager as much as admitted to us that they don't wash the salad because it is supposed to come in washed from the supply company. Drinks are fine; don't go for food. We shall not be eating there again.
