Spitalfields Market is doing well to survive and keep its identity in the rapidly changing area of Spitalfields as the neighbourhood’s facelift continues in the pursuit of “cool”. Spitalfields Market is a large indoor market that has stalls drenched with books, CDs, DVDs, jewellry, new-age products such as aromatherapy candles and oils; food such as cake, bread and sandwich stalls, and of course the ubiquitous clothes stalls (both second-hand and new) that saturate every London market.

It has been voted Best London Market for two years on the trot, so it must be worth a visit!

Sometime during the 00’s it was decided that Spitalfields had to be developed. While this struck a blow to the feel of the old market, what is left still resonates with the area’s charm. It may not be the great melting pot of weird and wonderful that it once was but during the week – the music stalls on Thursdays in particular – you can find some great stalls. Weekends make a good day out too and the new shops attracted to the area have helped to make this a retail beacon.
