Dear all,
Do not deal with Roseberys Auctioneers. Their customer service is awful and they overcharge customers with postage and packaging. For those who are interested, this is our story.

On the 5th of June 2020, we won a chair (lot 330) from the their fine arts auction. Sadly we are located in Shropshire so we are unable to drive 220 miles to London to collect a chair we won for £30. To resolve this issue, we asked ParcelForce to collect our items and deliver it to our address.

On the 16th of June ParcelForce attempted a collection from Rosebery at 15:43pm. This attempted collection was rejected. The same day we called Rosebery's again and explained we did not want them to organise shipping or packaging but to pass the chair to our courier ParcelForce. They apologised on the phone and we proceeded with the original plan. This sequence of events continued for the next couple of weeks.

Today, on the 24th of June 2020 we were informed by ParcelForce again that their was an attempted collection but were declined as Roseberys do not permit other couriers to collect items. This has been confirmed by their staff who called us on the phone and said we either have to pay £220 for postage or pick it up ourselves.

The reason why I have criticised their public service can be owed to a series of contradictory conversations I had with their staff. Clearly they are disorganised and unwilling to help customers who have purchased from them. Secondly, they extort shipping costs from their customers. Even if their policy of not dealing with outside couriers is true, this means that they will charge you £220 to ship a chair compared to £30 as charged by ParcelForce. Not only do they charge a buyer/seller a commision fee + VAT, but they also vastly overcharge you for shipping even if you organised your own courier.

I'm sure some people will disagree but I don't think its outrageous to get someone to collect any item for you when you live 220 miles away. When we told them they had lost a customer, they apologised and agreed to allow our courier to collect the chair, by this time its too late however. We will share this story with all our friends from the antiques trade and strongly discourge anyone from dealing with Rosebery's. They are the worst auctioneers I have ever dealt with.

Rosebery's auctioneers are terrible!
