Sophocles was a great place to work , I used to make croissants , Danish pastries, doughnuts , cream cakes etc for the then owner Phillip in the 1990s . The staff were great to work with as well as Phillip . Eric

My family always buy all our birthday and special occasion cakes here. They are not heavy sponge. Cream is lovely and the fruit makes the cakes moist.
Wouldn't go anywhere else!
They also do lovely fresh bread and have great opening/closing times.
Highly recommended!

I went here a while back to get a sandwich only to end up leaving with more!
The Italian chicken is so so good that I now go every week when working in Camberwell.
However I now also leave with amazing fresh Greek bread, greek sweets (the Baklava is delicious) and sausage rolls. All of the above is very tasty, very fresh and very well priced. On top of that the friendly atmosphere is another treat that this shop has. With tables to sit, eat, drink and mingle I love being sent to Camberwell on a weekly basis and hope to get sent more (all my 5 working days would do). I now take my wife and kids every other weekend for lunch which includes us leaving with many goodies including a big cake with fresh cream made minutes before. My kids love fresh cream rather than what is in the supermarkets and Sophocles Bakery is now a must for them. Long may it continue!

Some nice looking products and if the bread is fresh, it is good. Last two occasions I have been there though, I have been sold stale bread....the second time, after specifically asking if it was fresh.

Selling 'fresh' produce and being honest to customers are two pretty important requirements for any shop, I think...so a 'fail' for Sophocles.
