These places are well worth a look

The streets surrounding Leicester Square may be filled with tacky souvenir shops, but Charing Cross Road has this gem of a bookshop. Here you'll find rare editions of classic novels as well as journals and academic titles. Among their specialities are the arts, cookery, military, architecture and history. They buy books too, so if you have any leather-bound tomes collecting dust you may bag yourself a small fortune.

This 'bookshop' is the reason why a lot of people buy from Amazon. Poor customer service (if you can call two men sat at a table ignoring you service). Decent enough books, but nothing seems to have a particular order, or at least an order that is not clear if you're searching for something. The dreadful attitudes of the staff make this place a real negative to shop at.

Huge selection of books, especially great for antiquarian, art books or rare editions. The staff are really knowledgable and know their stock like the back of their hands. There's also a great selection of secondhand paperbacks and plays downstairs. Perfect if you're looking to buy a gift for someone special or just need to stock up on some holiday reading.

Give refunds or at least put a notice up explaining that they only do exchange or credit note so customers know their rights before buying. Very disappointing that they don't!
