V.A. Gibson Butchers

Been here twice for Beef fillets for a dinner party.. first time they were brilliant, no complaints.second time though i was given a cut from a fillet..nice and fresh and then sheepishly saw them wrap up a ready cut lump.Got home, one was juicy plump and fresh,the other was dried out grey and considerably less well off than its twin,as if it had been out for a while drying out.Its the way it was wrapped behind the counter out of sight,I should have said something at the time,but the didnt think they would try something like this to get rid of old stock. I will go somewhere else in future..

This is a real gem of a local butcher. The butchers are all fully trained, and willing to prepare meat for you in the way you want it with a little notice. They have a good variety of diferent cuts of meat, and can provide information on what type of cut to choose, how much to allow in weight per person, how to cook it etc - everything a good butcher should do.
Their homemade sausages are gorgeous, and are award winning! In fact, Gibson's have won awards for various products, including their pork pies I believe!
A testament to the popularity and quality of Gibson's is the fact that 2 days before Chrsitmas people were queueing out well onto the street to collect turkeys and buy meat for Christmas.
Gibson's also have a deli next door which stocks a really good range of cold meats, cheese etc - well worth a look!
Would thoroughly recommend this shop to locals.
