I remember the cat and cucumber from the 1960s when it served the best bacon roll in the whole of south London. I went to St.Olaves Grammar School, just round the corner and the Cat and Cucumber offered a good, cheap alternative to the dreaded school dinners. It is nice to see it still going strong.......a real bit of Bermondsey !
Worth a visit for the food and service alone.

I absolutely love this place. You can't beat the value for money, quality of food, or service for the price given that it's so close to not just a major tourist trap but Central London. Proper mugs of tea, decent chips, and Jam Roll with custard, one slice or two (custard, not the roll).
If only London had more of these sort of places, although the first time I saw it I wasn't sure if "Cat and Cucumber" was its name or the soup of the day. It even featured in a Carphone Warehouse advert a few years ago.
