Having worked around Wigmore Street on and off over a period of 15 years, Nanis was always a firm favourite; I've watched them expand and always believed they deserved the sucess they apparently have achieved over the years. However, last Thursday 18th March, 2010 at about 9.30am I encountered possibly the most offensive service I have ever come across in my entire life. I occassionally treat myself to a toasted melted cheddar cheese bagel for breakfast from Nanis which is always lovingly prepared and toasted in the sandwich press (mmmm) for which I have always paid £2. On this occassion I'd asked for 2 melted cheddar cheese toasties. For this I was charged £5! I reluctantly handed over a £5 pound note and whilst I was waiting, studied the menu baords. On the one side was the sandwich menu and for a cheese sandwich with salad, tomatoes and cucumber they charged £2.20 and on the other side on the breakfast menu was a croissant with ham and cheese on offer for £2.10. I pointed this out to the cashier, who said that the amount she charged was correct and that they charge 30p per toasted sandwich extra for the priviledge of having it toasted. So I conceded; well if that's what they do, fine, so be it. Then I saw the lady preparing the sandwich, place some cheddar cheese slices on some slices of toatsted bread and as she was slicing the sandwiches in half ready to package up, I informed her that that was not what I ordered. She called out over her shoulder, without even turning to look at me, that she would microwave them to melt the cheese. I tried telling her that that was not what I ordered and that I was expecting it to be toasted and melted in the sandwich press. Again without turning to look at me, she called out to the cashier and instructed her to give me back my money as she could not be bothered! I was shocked and left too horrified for words. As I said, I have never been treated in this way and needless to say will never be going back. What a shame...
