I wanted to rent a property in South Harrow and paid the holding deposit. But my current landlord did not respond to the tenancy referencing check, and instead, I was asked to send my bank statement and provide a UK-based guarantor. I provided a guarantor because I had paid the rents later (within 1-6 days of the date. That was ok with the current landlord, but Rightmove had marked it a late payment).
Then the agent told me that the landlord doesn't accept a guarantor and instead requires 12 months of rent upfront. I said I would not be able to pay this much money in advance. The agent said the landlord wasn't willing to rent the house to me.
After a couple of days, when I asked for refunding my holding deposit, they mentioned that my landlord didn't respond to the reference check to confirm my details. Hence, they aren't giving back my holding deposit.
They still have not refunded me.
It is worth mentioning that the property I intended to rent was supposed to be given to someone else before me. When I viewed the property, the agent mentioned that another applicant had applied for it, and because "they didn't tell the truth", their application was rejected.
