I am confident that you won't leave disappointed when you've had a cut by Eva. She cuts our whole family's hair and she is always professional, honest and gives the best head massage whilst washing your hair! Trust is a big thing when you go to a hairdressers and I totally trust Eva. I had a vague idea of a style I wanted for a wedding and she straight away knew what I wanted, knew how to make it suit me, made my hair look amazing and I spent the night getting compliments for it.
The salon itself has a great fit out, big comfy chairs and a few of my favourite Aussie magazines too!

Eva is a brilliant hairdresser and I trust her completely with my hair. The salon has a relaxed vibe and doesn't make u feel uncomfortable like other salons. Eva is honest in her approach and always willing to help you find the perfect style.

I love my hair! I think Eva is an artist, she cuts for the whole person. She is creative, exciting, challenging and clever.
I have never had a cut from her that I haven't liked. And her colour is fabulous. I really like the colours she uses, she's clever about the colour of my hair and about the grey, which I love by the way! Clever.
And she has shown me how to look after my hair, and it's pretty good if I say so myself, healthy, strong, shiny...
I'm very lucky to have OLS so close to where I live!
Oh, & she cuts my boy'f's hair too, and he's reeaally fussy!

I have been visiting OLS for 3 years - it's a very different approach to your usual high street salon.

Eva really knows about hair, she takes her time and shows real care and attention in what she does. Admittedly I'm never going to have Alexa Chung's hair, but I'd rather someone tell me that understands my hair and instead we can work towards what's right for me.

I'm suprised by the negative comments, as Eva is a truly skilled and professional stylist and I will always recommend OLS. I think she's brill, and she's massively improved the condition of my hair. Definitely worth a

Eva has cut my hair for nearly 9 years and I have to say she's the most accurate and attentive stylist I've ever met
Her bubbly and caring and friendly personality are an added bonus and make for the most pleasurable and best hair cut you can get anywhere I know I london (or Manchester for that matter when I'm up there too!)

I used to have £5 barber cuts but then my partner went to OLS and I was so impressed by her funky new style that I started going to OLS too. We both always see Juan and we have been going for years.. It is amazing to have a hairdresser who cares about your look and your style more than you do. Before I would never have seen the point of a posh haircut, now I get tetchy in the weeks leading to a new appointment.

I would like to say that my boyfriend and I have been going to OLS for over a year now and we always had our hair cut with Eva. She is fantastic.

We really do welcome her tips on how to look after our hair better and what hair cut suits me more. The only small criticism is that sometimes she may want to cut a bit more than I initially wanted to, however I don understand that we need to get rid of the damaged ends.

What we like the most is that she is very chatty and full of good advice and has the no BS attitude.

We will continue going to OLS!!

i was determined to take the reviews with a pinch of salt. but it happened. i had the worst haircut i have ever had.... it looks like a pudding bowl after i asked for a long bob (think alexa chung). i look more like lego man. its also much shorter (by about 3 inches) than i asked for. I expressed at the time i didnt like it, but to be honest i just desperately wanted her to stop cutting my hair. it got so short because she couldnt get it straight and she missed a huge chunk. just technically very good at cutting hair.

Bored of barber's cut, I looked for a nice salon in the East Dulwich / Herne Hill area.

Despite some negative reviews on this website, I'm glad I gave Our Little Secret a chance (always judge for yourself, eh).

I don't know about Juan but I have been delighted with Eva's work. She's ever-so friendly and a great hairdresser: knowledgeable and professional. Being Spanish, she can be a bit blunt and I see how some people can take offence, but she just knows her stuff!

The 1st time she did wonders, the 2nd time even better and after the 3rd time, my friends just keep complimenting!

Although I'm a man my hair is tricky to cut and barber shops always mess it up. Eva spent two hours painstakingly sorting out a horrible bird's nest. £35 for two hours' work from such a dedicated expert is excellent value. I'm relieved to have found someone I can trust.

I was just looking up the phone number for OLS as left my phone at home and felt compelled to join this site just to write a review. I think Juan is wonderful, he really cares about your hair condition and cut and helps explain how to keep it in tip top condition. it's quite hard to get an appointment which i assume is because they have a lot of happy customers. One tip, he is brilliant at hair up dos, i had mine done to go to a wedding and it was beautiful, outshone the bridesmaid which went down less well! i know several locals and someone who comes back from Richmond because they trust him so much.

I feel a need to respond to the bad reviews about OLS. I have been going to Eva for the past year and have only ever received top quality cuts, colour and helpful advice. What you have to understand is that Juan and Eva are passionate about what they do, and strive to be completely honest with their customers. If what you want is not going to work, for example due to the condition of your hair, they will tell you.
The Spanish are very direct, and maybe to us conservative Brits this comes across as rude, but it is certainly not intended in this way. Personally I would far rather that my hairdresser is honest about my hair. As someone who has always strived to go as light as possible when having highlights (ie.lots of bleach), I was shocked on my first visit to the salon to discover that my hair was in a bad way. Taking on board what Eva recommended, I can now see a huge difference in the condition. I am using the right products and have a cut and colour that I love. This cut is low maintainence and the colour blond, but subtle.
I totally trust Juan and Eva as well experienced professionals who know what they are talking about. My whole family use the salon and everyone who I have recommended it to, has gone on to become a regular.
I can understand how awful it is to have a negative experience in a hairdressers. After all, once the hair is gone, there is nothing you can do about it. For that reason, be extremely clear to Juan and Eva to avoid misunderstandings. Remember that English is their second language and mistakes can happen.
They want nothing more than for their customers to leave happy. Needless to say the vast majority do. It is always necessary to book appointments in advance, and it is also testamount to the success of OLS that they do not need to publicise the salon.
Most people choose a hairdressers based on the recommendation of a friend rather than via a bad review. OLS is a great salon, the best in the area, and thoroughly deserves a visit!

I was interested to see the bad reviews for OLS here as I had the most negative and distressing salon experience of my life here just a few weeks ago and spent the evening in floods of tears. I usually see Juan, who is very good (although as other reviews testify he can cut one's fringe too short). However my last session was with Eva who was very rude to me and proceeded to sneer openly at my botched highlights from a previous salon, tell me how badly I look after my hair, instruct me as to what I should do differently and tell me how customers will not listen to professionals like her. (very similar to the tone below from "Laura"). Fair enough, I thought, she seems to know what she's doing, at least the hair cut will be good. However, it was AWFUL - extremely uneven, unflattering to my face and head shape and resembled Princess Diana's engagement photo crossed with a mullet aka shoreditch high street in 2002. Also, although I had told her I had been growing it for over a year, most of the length was lost (Juan had been helping me to conserve the length). I then became extremely upset, at which point she said I had asked for this look during the consultation (?!). I was desperate to salvage the hair as I was going on holiday the next day so I asked her for a graduated bob (the hairstyle I had spent more than a year growing out), which is also badly cut and three weeks on I am still upset enough to write an online review (my first one ever). The graduation line is unflattering, the back is not blended and sits awkwardly and longest point is my upper jaw. I am absolutely gutted and urge people not to accept an appointment with Eva for a restyle, although she did a very good job of my colour. Juan, however, is very talented and gentle mannered and makes the salon experience an enjoyable one as it should be. I will be writing to them as I believe OLS is a very nice small business and deserves the feedback. I am sad I can't return due to this recent experience.
Response from PBR Client
Although I can understand what it feels to go through a negative and not so flattering 'hairdo' experience (and I am sure we have all gone through such an experience at some point during a visit to a hairdresser salon) I have to come to the defence of the hair stylists at Our Little Secret, where I've been cutting my hair for the last three years. To say that Juan is a hairdresser is an understatement. He is beyond any doubt an incredible stylist; innovative, creative and passionate. If you are looking simply to have your hair ends cut, then you have obviously gone to the wrong salon. Now, I have also had my hair cut by Eva, who has recently joined the salon (1 year or so) and my experience has been amazing. Having had my hair cut many times by Juan, Eva has been a breath of 'fresh air' to my styling and looks. Well, if my son and colleagues alike can tell me I am looking younger than ever after Eva had a go at my hair, she without a doubt has my vote any time! And yes, she does wonders with colour too. They both do.

I think for those who live in Herne Hill you are lucky to have such a jewel of a salon next door. I make the journey from NW London to have my hair looked after by Our Little Secret!.

I am very surprised to see that people spent time to put a bad review of a lovely business as this one is and I wonder in all sincerity if they do the same with every negative experience they have in this area? Because in all honesty there is no better salon.

I definitely recommended Our Little Secret team, as they are my local and I believe they had brought to Herne Hill the quality of the West end at a affordable price and they focus in coaching you to get healthier hair, plus they expend a good hour on the service and they do not use a round blow dry so the cut is fit to all day use without the support of too many products or lots of extra morning time.

If we want to be critical facts MUST BE right as in both negatives reviews contain contradictions:for one the cut was good and for the other even if the first visit was so negative she came back? It make no sense?!
On my own experience I find that we all have the tendency to be really critical without considering our own hair quality and state of it, we are not professionals hairdressers and we do not always explain our wishes as well as we think; much more many times I heard in a salon "I trust you" and "I don't know what I want" that a firmly answer. But we forget that completely.
The reality is that in all salons you can find problems in service, outcome, waiting, etc;we don't like an expensive service and neither a cheap cut but when we have the second we don't complain as much even if after two days is back on a pony tale. Money in dinners or drinks is not so overlook even if more expensive. It makes no sense to me? I worked in receptions desk in difference salons in central London, and always saw the same, when a client is happy simply comes back but when is not, it is not enough to find a different place but to aim to push others away from that business.
I am sorry to heard complains about them but it would be great if the people that did them were more constructive that mean.
It's a unique p

I have had my haircut in Our Little Secret a couple of times and was very disappointed on both occasions. The first time I had the guy; I told him I was desperately trying to grow my hair long and wanted my fringe very slightly trimmed. Halfway through the cut, I was panic stricken to see 5 inch long clumps of my hair falling onto the floor, he'd basically cut my fringe as if it was a bowl cut which actually overlapped my existing hair.. he also took about three inches off the length. I was upset for weeks and had to clip my fringe back for months.

So perhaps I should not have gone back to the salon, but I had heard there was a new stylist and as Herne Hill is so convenient for me I thought I'd give her a go. Big mistake... again I couldn't have made it clearer that I was growing my hair and wanted to keep it long, she gave me confidence when she reassured me how little she was going to take off. As I sat there (for well over an hour) I noticed she was chopping off more and more, keeping on needing to neaten up until again, I had lost three inches.

To be fair, with Eva the actual cut was very good, my complaint is that they don't seem to listen to what you want and you can't grow back what they take away, so it's an upsetting experience for anybody who is specifically trying to keep long hair, it won't happen.. however much you insist!!!

I've been going to this salon for awhile and have been happy until now, despite the incredibly long waiting time for my appointments up to 20mins, and the length of time that it takes for a colour and cut can be up to 3.5 hrs which is a ridiculous amount of time to spend sitting in a salon. It takes an hour to cut my hair, not a re-style but a trim, 30 - 40 mins is all it should require!!As per I asked for a trim, half an inch max. As any woman knows who's been painstakingly growing their hair for over a year want the bare minimum cut off...well this time Eva chops well over 2 inches!I'm fuming, and upset, all at a cost of £45! I will not be returning anytime soon.

Hello, just happened to see the poor review for Our Little Secret and felt I couldn't move on without saying a quick word to balance it out. I think Juan is the best hairdresser I've ever had and has absolutely changed my hair life! He gets very booked up for that reason which is a credit to him as he absolutely deserves the success. I think I've tried every style there is over the years, but this is the first place I've been to where they've really understood what suits me. Been back lots and it's the same success each time. So highly recommended from me.

I got my hair cut at Our Little Secret the other week and was very disappointed. He talked me out of my idea and suggested something a little different which, I realised afterwards, depended on me straightening my hair everyday (which I don't)and even I had told him told him I was low maintenance. I also think it's a bit stupid to assume everyone owns a pair of straighteners...! My hair is naturally straight but this cut makes it kick out in all directions and doesn't suit my face shape at all. I was so upset after I washed my hair that I burst into tears and even after a careful blow-dry it still looks rubbish. It's very expensive (£45) for a tiny unknown SE London hairdressers and I feel completely ripped off. Worst of all, it was uneven so I had to go back. They evened it out but they weren't particularly gracious about it. I had high hopes about this place but overall it's the worst haircut I've had and for the most money too, very disappointing. Needless to say, will never go back.
Have your say
