DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SHOP!

If I could give a zero star rating i could.

I bought a gold bracelet here for my birthday. The bracelet broke after only 2 months of wear. I took it back to explain one of the links was loose. The gentleman who owns the shop said they would send it back to the manufacture. I showed him which link it was, and unfortunately he fastened it back together. This then meant the manufacturer did not know which link was broken and subsequently fixed the wrong one. What’s more, they used a link from the bracelet to weld the link together – making the bracelet noticeably smaller. Only two days after getting the bracelet back, it broke AGAIN. The link I had taken it in for was not fixed.

When I complained about this to the gentlemen, he got very upset and shouted at me in the shop – telling me never to come back to shop again. AS IF I WOULD BY FROM THIS DODGY SHOP AGAIN!. Do not waste your money or your time – there are several other reputa

Dear customer,

There are a few inaccuracies in your account which we’d like to highlight. We pride ourselves on our customer service, but our staff deserve to be treated with respect which we unfortunately found was lacking in your interaction with us.

- You did not speak with the business owner when you came to the shop

- The item we repaired twice for you is a 1970’s era vintage hollow gold bracelet (not modern)

- It was taken to our workshop in Hatton Garden, and mended for you twice (free of charge, at the expense of our business) by our trusted and experienced repairer of more than 30 years

- We explained to you when it went to repair, that due to the design of the links, which are tubular and hollow gold, it would be sturdiest to weld together the broken link to avoid it breaking again. We also checked all other links on both occasions.

- After it was broken a 2nd time in a different place, as a good will gesture, we apologised and offered a full refund despite it being no fault of our own (vintage and antique jewellery needs to be treated with the utmost care)

We offer our apologies again for your dissatisfaction with the bracelet and hope you find something more suitable in the future.

Kind Regards

Rob

I have been to this shop several times whilst in the area and it's always a wonderful experience. They have some very interesting old pieces and the staff are kind, courteous and knowledgeable.

As another reviewer has said, the shop is rather old-fashioned but this just adds to the charm.

My daughter and I were recommended to visit the shop, so on my last trip from Brisbane to London 2012 we made sure we found the time. We were both after a piece of jewellery as a memento of England. The service was wonderful and I am so happy with my diamond and ruby ring and earring set. We were not rushed, and as I strolled around I discovered a framed set of Dame Margot Fonteine's ballet shoes from her Swan Lake performance. This beautiful experience will remain with us forever, as will the wonderful Mr Mcarthy. Marilyn & Angela

I have shopped here since 1991 and nothing has changed which so adds to it's charm ! I told friends and brought visitors to see it. The service is impeccable and the jewellery I have is so special - not necessarily expensive - just unique. I have long since moved jobs but will always make the journey back to artillery row to j m McCarthy.

I have bought jewellery here for several years. They have some interesting items in both modern and older style. The staff are knowledgeable and very pleasant. The decor is a bit dated, but only adds to the charm. People should be aware however that they do not take credit or debt cards of any type. It is strictly a cash or cheque business. I would not hesitate to recommend this shop, particularly if you want something a bit different from the usual high street offering.

Dear customer,

Thank you for your lovely review! After my father's retirement, I decided that moving forward the business would accept debit and credit card payments - much to the delight of many of our customers.

Hope to see you again soon

Because I work nearby, I've used this shop over the years as the place to buy beautiful but inexpensive second hand jewellery for my wife, mainly ear rings. Excellent value, some real classic pieces plus some interestingly rare Armada silver dishes and goblets. The service is refreshingly old fashioned (the shop was probably last refurbished just after the war)and if you buy something and your partner doesn't like it, they will swap or even do a refund. Do check their opening hours - think they close about 5.00 most days and I don't think open over weekend.
