One of the most visited regions of London, Westminster is home to the Palace of Westminster and the Parliamentary buildings. Westminster itself is located in the City of Westminster and is less than half a mile from the City of London district.
Historically, the name Westminster was only used to refer to the small part of land that surrounds Westminster Abbey, but the district was expanded in 1965 to include a much larger area encompassing Marlybone and Paddington.
Today, Westminster is largely residential and many of the families living in this district have been there for generations. There are also several council estates which increases the population level substantially.
