I had a blow-dry prior to a black tie function. I was wary as I have quite badly behaved hair and not having visited the salon before didn't know what to expect. Well I need not have worried. My hair was fabulous - the man is a whizz with a brush! I'll be back - highly recommend!!

I'm also surprised about the negative reviews. I think John Harding is the best kept secret in London. I thought he was pleasant and interesting, and he gave me the best haircut and colour I've had in years - and I have always gone to high end salons and spent a fortune on getting my hair done. I'm shocked that there isn't a month-long waiting list to get an appointment.

I'm a bit surprised by the negative reviews on here and wondered if the people had been to the same place as me. I didn't find the salon dingy, and it's a really nice location where you can look at the boats in the marina.

I found John very helpful and while he was rather blunt, he was clearly someone who was passionate about hair and was giving his honest opinion, which I'd personally rather hear when it comes to my hair, as I've had some poor experiences with hairdressers and they still send me away saying it looks nice.

I had a groupon deal and I really felt I got my moneys worth as I was in there for quite some time (my hair was a bit of a mess). He didn't cut too much off, in fact I had to encourage him to cut more (I'm quite mean and like to get my hair cut short so I don't have to go back too often!).

I work locally and I'm pleased to find a good hairdresser so near. I just wish I could make my hair look as good as when I left the salon, as I thought it made me look both younger and thinner . Of course we all know that can never happen, no haircut is that good. I find I look a mess as soon as I get about 5 steps from any hairdresser, and the better it looks in the hairdresser the worse I manage to make it look at home, sigh...

What a wonderful hair experience. Both John and Fiona made me feel very comfortable as soon as I entered the salon. John sat me down and we started to talk about my hair, which I knew was in a desperate state. He advised me to have a considerable amount off and to stop over bleaching my hair. I took his professional advise and took the plunge! John then proceeded to do my hair. The end result was magnificent, the colour looked so much more natural and the cut fell into place. I have been able to manage my hair where I could not before. Everybody has commented on how great my hair looks now.
I would highly recommend this salon and John's expert advise.

I also bought a Groupon for a cut and colour at this salon. I agree with the review below that the salon was quite outdated, and quite shabby. However, I thought perhaps this would have no reflection on the work they could do. I had my hair done with Fiona and now in retrospect I am quite thankful that it wasn't John. I wanted blonde highlights and a trim. However, Fiona did cut off about 2" which I can live with, my hair is much healthier now, but it was a bit too much. As for the highlights, even when I left the salon I could not that she had done anything at all to the colour. I wrote an email a few days later to see if there was something we could do, perhaps if she could put a few more highlights on the top of my head so it least it looked like I had something done. I got an email back from her two weeks later, which said she understood and I could call the salon to have a chat with her, and we could go from there.

This morning I called the salon to talk to Fiona and got a man (who I am assuming could have been John). He was very rude and although I asked to speak with Fiona, he continued to have the conversation with me. He told me that because it was a Groupon promotion and the salon makes no money from that, then really couldn't do much to help. Also if I wanted any extra work on I would have to pay, since he was quite sure that Fiona only did what I asked her. Although he wasn't there the day I had my hair done, he said that I told Fiona I wanted "subtle" highlights on my long hair (he also said since I apparently had long hair, which I do not, that I should have been charged more from the beginning). In reference to the highlights I said I wanted blonde, which I certainly did not get, after getting them done I had a friend ask if I had done something to make my hair darker?

In the end I am very disappointed with this salon, their customer service, and there overall disregard for customer satisfaction. I would not recommend this salon to anyone

I bought a cut and colour for this salon through Groupon, and can honestly say it was the worst hairdressing experience I've ever encountered. I'd like to consider myself a brave girl when it comes to my hair, but this is the first time I've ever cried sat in a salon chair.

Where to begin? The décor looks like it hasn't been touched from the 1970s, the lights are dingy and unflattering, and the customer service stinks. Upon entering some sort of salon time warp, I was greeted by my stylist, John. He basically sat me down and slagged off my hair for about 20 mins, telling me it was 'f*cked'. Which ok, it is a little overbleached, but this man was missing some serious tact, considering himself some sort of Gordon Ramsey of hair. It was at this point I should've walked out.

First he cut tons off the length, despite the fact I asked him not to. Then when I showed him the colour I wanted, he told me 'no I wouldn't like that, I wouldn't want it'. It was a dip-dyed colour which he knew absolutely nothing about, and thought it was the underneath I wanted dying which was not the case. So I got talked into having this mid-mousey blonde colour, which I will be changing later this week. Along with paying £200 for extensions to make up for inches he carelessly chopped off.

I tried to be as positive as I could and polite as possible, but this man actually made me cry. It wasn't even so much what he did, but how he went around it. He was just so rude, and way too opinionated considering his only other client that day was getting a blue rinse.

I would like to say that my visit to john harding salon was fantastic, i was staying with a friend in wapping and needed my hair cut and styled. I had the lovely young stylist danielle do my hair and was so so pleased she did exactly what i wanted and gave me advise to maintain my locks,i have never felt so comfortable and trustworthy getting my hair done. I will defently be returning in the future. Thanks so much again.

£25 for a man's short back and sides? Ridiculous. Haircut was OK, nothing special, but then isn't every short back and sides? I got a cup of tea and some limp conversation then got robbed on my way out. I can't honestly say I'll visit again unless I'm having a dire emergency.

BRILLIANT!! Thats what I want to say about this salon! I was staying at the Tower Hotel this weekend for a corporate gala with my husband and as it was a 'posh frock' occasion and me being a bit of a 'diva' where my hair is concerned...hubby teated me to my appointment! I met John himself when I called in to confirm my time etc and Fiona carried out my treatment, both of them were most warm welcoming and friendly, and I was very very pleased with the end result. After a gorgeous shampoo/scalp massage etc Fiona listened and did exactly what I asked for to my hair..not forgetting as well making me the only good cuppa that I had all weekend and a good girly chat too!! Everyone commented on how good my hair looked and it stayed in place all night AND still presentable the next morning too!! As for price/value I was actualy charged Less than originally quoted(which I had thought reasonable anyway!) so was WELL Impressed!!! THANK YOU...and thanks also to your fab website for helping me find John Harding details in the first place too!!!

I've just visited John's salon and must say it was worth it! The one and only one hairdresser in the whole UK who listed to me, checked with me what I like and what are my expectations, then played with my hair for a while to find out their nature and showed me how they will end up lying if certain cut was done. Very impressive! He is worth any money! Moreover, he was extremely friendly, you know.. the type of people you hardly ever meet in London nowadays:)

John is a wonderful hairdresser AND he listens to you! I have curly hair and John really knows understands how to cut it. I find it easy to manage and I get soooooo many complements! Thank you John... you rock!

John Harding is a bit eccentric but really understood my hair (as its curly it often catches less experienced hairdressers out) - it was a great hair cut which required minimal effort from me to style at home. The colour looked natural (which was what I requested) and I have had lots of compliments from people.

The salon isn't cheap, but that's not surprising given the location.

Reasonably priced hairdressers in St Katherine Docks. Most of the staff are friendly and welcoming and professional with minimal waiting time. Cut is average/above average if completed by the two women stylists. One word of warning though - I once had the male senior stylist cut my hair - the result was well below their normal standard. He asked how I wanted my hair cut and then proceeded to tell me that he didn't understand it (despite me giving exactly the same instructions I give to his two colleagues who usually produce a good result) and that the customer was usually wrong! That experience would give me serious reservations about returning but if you get one of the two female stylists it is usually quite good for the money in a prime location.
