I have not visited celia Hammond for yrs I am on benefits and have been told they are so good with animals, and certainly a lot cheaper than being ripped off by the vets, I have paid way over the top for my dogs, and will be going to celia from now on, they are such a worthy charity and care about the animals, well done and hope you will carry on for many yrs.

I took my cat to be spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and get her flea and deworming treatment and all that cost far less than the price my vet would have charged just for the spaying alone. I found the staff to be very friendly, helpful and knowledgable. The premises are fine - it does the job and I wasn't looking for a 5* hotel environment for what amounts to a few minutes dropping off and collecting. Above all, the money paid to this brilliant charity goes towards helping animals in need - not into the pocket of a commercial vet. Well done on the fantastic work you do for animals.

After reading the other reviews about this service I was scheptical about bringing my new pet to this surgery and only stumbled upon it after believing it was the PDSA surgery which is close by. I am currently on benefits and needed to get out adolecent kitten to have his first innoculations and have him neutered. I found the staff very helpful, friendly and welcoming and was astonished that the prices of the treatments were much less than those being charged by the PDSA. The staff also so accommodating and happy to answer any queries that I asked. The surgery was suprisingly clean too which was more than I expected giving the fact that animals had been in there. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY as the service and treatment was second to none. If you are a pet owner and on a low income please don't be fooled by other costly vet practices this one gives you the same service as you would get at a fraction of the price! I will be using them again in the future and when I am employed again I will be sure to use them again and will be leaving a donation as this charity deserves it. Neutering cost me no more than £5.00 injections cost between £10-£20 and micro chipping my moggie £10 much cheeper than I was quoted for the same service from the PDSA who charge £30 for vaccinations, £15 for microchipping and £25 for neutering even for those on benefits! There simply really is no reason for a pet owner not to have their pet taken anywhere else locally.

Thank all the staff for looking after my beloved pet and I look forrward to bringing him there again. He was happy as a tom can be after your service :-)

We got our cat from Celia Hammond's in New Cross, London two years ago and she is an absolute joy. However we have friends who are younger than we are (we are now 70 and 74 respectively) and when they enquired about an adult cat (they have a lovely home, well off the main road, plus garden) they were asked how old they were!! I think our friends took exception to that and eventually went to a pet shop and bought a kitten. Some poor cat waiting patiently for a new home at Celia Hammonds really missed out there! It just seems a shame that perhaps someone wasn't as sensitive about asking questions as they should have been. When the woman called to 'vet' our home she could see at the time that my husband is in very poor health but that didn't seem to be a problem for her. As it is our little cat is a tonic for my husband and she's great company for him.

Celia Hammond are a charity vets, and don't have the polish of your Commercial Vets. You go there, hand your animal over, and then call several hours later to hear if you can collect them. If you want lots of feedback and hand-holding, go pay a commercial vet, as you won't get it here.

The great thing about Celia Hammond Vets is that they do not charge the scary fees that commercial vets do. They are a Charity that serves the welfare of animals above profit. So, if you need to get your pet neutered and can't afford the commercial fee, then Celia Hammond are there to help. Today (July 2009), they are offering a female cat neuter price of £25 against £94 plus extras charged by my nearest commercial vet.

Driving into London is not something many people do by choice, not least of which because you can only get out of your car there if you are strong enough to carry it around with you as a back pack. Fortunately, Celia Hammond have a small short stay parking street just next to them, so you don't have to develop super-human strength to use them. They are also just yards from St Johns Station.

So, they are not pretty, not big on the talking, but you can hand your pet over to be treated when they need it (if you are on a low income / benefits), and take them home hale and hearty without having to live on baked beans for the next 6 months to pay for the treatment.
