Entertainment

Mother’s Day is celebrated on Sunday March the 22nd this year. If you’re short of ideas on how to treat your mum and show how much you love her then keep on reading...

Pampering

Every mum needs a bit of pampering now and again and if you really want to spoil your mum this year then where better than the Elemis day-spa, in Mayfair. This gorgeous spa, located in the heart of London, has a huge range of weird and wonderful sounding treatments including an Absolute Aroma Stone Ritual, the Hawaiian Wave Four Hands Massage and if you want to treat yourself as well, the Time For Two Couples Ritual which includes an Exotic Frangipani Body Nourish Float. There are also special treatments for mums to be.

Shopping!

The beautiful and opulent Liberty, www.liberty.co.uk, on Regent Street opened in 1875 but is still a great favourite with mums and is a really pleasurable shopping experience. All that browsing is bound to make you feel hungry so treat your mum to a traditional afternoon tea. The Liberty Café is the place to go for the ‘ladies who lunch’ set with its gorgeous décor and mouthwatering menu. Afternoon tea is served from 3 pm and includes scones with clotted cream and organic gooseberry, rose petal and strawberry preserve and a wide selection of delicious cakes. I would highly recommend the meringue with clotted cream and berry compote or the rich Belgian chocolate cake.

Crocus Walks

Breast cancer is an important issue for all women and the Breakthrough breast cancer charity is coordinating sponsored Crocus Walks this Mothers Day. The money raised will go towards Breakthrough’s research and education programme and Norwich Union has promised to match all funds raised up to £100,000. A Crocus Walk can be as long as you like and any number of people can take part. You can either set up your own walk or join one of the existing ones listed on their website. Over 1,700 UK walks took place in 2006 so why not join in and try and beat this impressive figure. For more information, log onto www.crocuswalk.org.uk which contains lots of helpful information on organising a walk including publicity tips.
\n\nFor a great night out in London, what could be more apt than tickets to Mamma Mia at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Mamma Mia is the story of a daughter who seeks to find out the identity of her real father on the eve of her wedding and uncovers three men from her mother’s past! This is the ultimate feel good show and all those wonderful ABBA songs will have you and your mum dancing in the aisles!

Say it with Flowers!

You can’t beat a beautiful bouquet to make your mum feel special on Mothers Day and in London you have an unrivalled range of florists to choose from. Paula Pryke, www.paula-pryke-flowers.com, is renowned for her innovative designs, and has shops in Islington, Brompton Cross and Liberty. Paula Pryke also runs a flower school in Islington if your mum fancies herself as a bit of a florist! The highly respected courses range from an eight day intensive course for those wishing to pursue a career in floristry to one day courses for those who just love arranging flowers and would like to learn some new techniques.

Or see our list of London Florists in the All In London Business dIrectory.
\n\nThere has been a lot of publicity recently regarding the amount of pesticides used in growing flowers and the air miles involved in transporting them across the world. To show your mum that you care about her and the environment, log on to The Organic Flower Company website, www.tofc.co.uk for a beautiful range of naturally grown organic flowers and flowers sourced from local suppliers in the UK. Fair trade roses are available from £30, the English spring mix from £35 and cream organic roses from £40.

Relax with a book

If your Mum loves nothing better than to curl up with a good book, log onto www.lovereading.co.uk which has a special Mother’s day list of titles which can be ordered online. Publications include Queen Mum by Kate Long; a great collection of short stories called Mums: A Celebration of Motherhood; The Yummy Mummy’s Ultimate Family Survival Guide by Liz Fraser and for younger children looking for a present, My Mummy is Magic by Carl Norac.
