I am also looking to move from Chicago to London sometime soon. I am in my mid twenties and would love some advice from those who have moved.
Where to live?
What to do?
Costs?
Etc...

Thanks so much and have a wonderful new year.

hiya, you've made a great choice in coming to london - its such a great place to be. i lived in clapham for a few years. its very young and lively there. try and aim for the clapham common area as that is nicest it gets not as nice towards the north particularly beyond clapham north towards stockwell - wouldn't recommend that too much. islington is trendy, but i'm not that keen as its just too busy but that's just personal taste. if you have the budget and like it a bit cleaner and greener try st johns wood, chalk farm, primrose hill - all lovely areas.

i reckon you need to bank on paying £125+ per week for a nice place and certainly £150pw isn't that rare either - hope you manage to get well-paid jobs!

Good luck and enjoy the city...

I went to an event last night in Sound Bar, Leicester Sq. called Flat Night Fever which is like speed dating but for people looking for flatmates, so if you're interested in sharing a house, this is a really fun way of finding somewhere.

It was a bit starnge to begin with but there were a lot of people there and once you started speaking with people, everyone is really friendly.

I've just moved to London and was unsure about where I want to live, so I know how it feels.

Good luck and I hope you find the right place in the right area :-)

Hi,

Make sure you have some temporary accommodation for at least a week while you look for a flat or share.

It’s a good idea to try to get a bank account before you go. (You don't need to fork out a heap of money to an agency to do it either)

I bought this really great ebook that told me how to get a bank account. It’s also got advice on renting, tax, immigration... all sorts of stuff and links to websites and some discount coupons in the back.

It's written by a couple that have already done it and they tell you about traps to watch out for and some of their mistakes so you don't make them.

I found it helped me out a lot.

I bought it online at www.thelondonsurvivalguide.com

Have a great trip!!!!
