I am 17 and just learning how to drive now but some of my friends that turn 17 after January might not be able to as the driving age could be raised to 18...

Just wondering what your views are...... Do you think it is a good idea to raise the age??

(i no they having been saying they are going to for a while and probably wont go through with it but still.........)

Also i actually think it is a good idea beacause there are so many irresponsible people and raising the age might give some people enough time to mmature HOWEVER i am glad they havent done it before now so i can learn straight away Happy Happy

I say raise it.....

Saying that though, where i live, you only need to look through the local rag to find columns taken up by banned, underage, taxless, insuranceless etc......You won't keep the idiots off the road though, no matter how high you raise the bar, but maybe it would limit the number of potential idiots.

I think it's not a bad idea if they did raise the age. Just based on statistics and averages and things like that, a 17 year old male is more likely to have an accident and be irresponsible/distracted than a man in his 20s. Is not true of all young men, but as I say I'm basing it on probablility.

I wouldn't get in a car with a 17 year old behind the wheel. I have trouble getting on some of my friends cars for that matter.

No offence intended to anyone!

Dont know about the age but they should definitely raise the IQ level needed to drive a car.

I think they should raise the drinking age to 21, too... and be strict, like in the US. Too many underage girls get let into places cause they dress up, and the bouncers know it but like to look. I don't dress up and I get asked for I.D, yet I'm in my 20s. See it happen a lot. Is balls.

I would raise the age for drivers & for alcohol.
Would be happy for the drinking age to be over 21s.
I don't drink any alcohol at all, i've seen what alcohol can do to people & i don't like it.

Just reading a old friends facebook earlier, she's 29.
We kinda stopped hanging out together when we were around 17 as she used to go clubbing & used to drink a lot. Before that we were best friends, always together etc.

Anyway i saw a pic of her & some friends & one of the comments was about her throwing up at a train station after a night out.

I know she's 29 so a raised drinking limit wouldn't be any good for her but i think its awful. Girls/women getting pi$$ed out of their head all the time. I'm not saying its just girls as boys do the same thing but i hate seeing girls with skirts touching their bum cheeks, top with their boobs falling out, tons of make-up on, walking down the road with cans/bottles of alcohol in their hands.

I agree the age should be raised, I also think that a compulsory test at 70 should be introduced, and yearly there after.....

True, some elderly drivers are awful! There was a programme about olllld drivers a while ago and this one lady knew she was in a space by using the cars' bumpers around her, she would just reverse until she hit them. Crazy lady.

Also I saw a car in a bus lane last week, making a turning where only buses are allowed to make this turning, as it bypasses a whole one way system. She was very old and also a nun. Maybe nuns are exempt from road traffic laws.
