Moving to London for work purposes....need help!

Hey,

I'm moving to London in September for work, initially I'm based in Maidenhead, Berkshire, then I will be in central London from then on. Basically what I need advice with is:

*Is Maidenhead a lively spot to live in? I'm 22 and I want to be able to socialise...would it be a good idea to rent in this area til I find my feet then move closer to central London when work requires?
*Or if its advisible to live closer to central London, what area would be good for both travelling to Berkshire by train and car? I've seen Paddington is the train line that runs to Berkshire...

As I say I am totally confused as to what to do so any advice would be appreciated!!
