Hi All,

Love the site, always looking at new posts to get the latest on what makes London tick.

I am moving to London in October and just want some advice on a few things. I will be living in Clapham with family just till I find a job then I will look to share with hopefully some friendly housemates.

What is the situation currently with jobs at the moment? I work in banking and finance. How long do you think before I can find some sort of temp or permanent position? I have a euro passport so I will have no issues with restrictions on visas or anything like that.

I'm 24 and looking at staying for 2-3 years. What's the general concensus of life in London? I know obviously it gets very cold at certain times of the year. What else should I be preparing for?

I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Welcome to All In London and congratuations on deciding to move to the best city in the world :)

I don't think you'll have any problems finding temp work if you're prepared to take jobs that might not be your perfect role in the short term. Things are really starting to pick up in the financial sector in London. A friend of mine runs an recruitment business in this area and he's saying how things have picked up over the last few months. It's a good time to be moving to London I think.

You'll love Clapham, very lively and lots to do in the evenings. The weather will be terrible compared to Sydney but you'll get used to it and learn to moan about it with the rest of us.

All the best,
AIL Staff

Expect everything to be expensive here.

It is definitely tough to find work at the moment, but not impossible! You just need to be very persistent. I work with some Aussies doing promotional work and they have managed to find other office work through temping agencies, so that's definitely worth checking out. Good luck

Thanks guys for all your feedback. Really looking forward to getting there and settling down with accommodation and work.

Can't wait to watch a Premier League game too!

I know a couple of people who work in recruitment - one specifically in banking and finance - and they say that things are definitely picking up again with good quality applicants being sought by companies gearing up for strong economic times to come. They say they're really busy, so can't be that bad out there anymore!
