Things in London you really miss

I was talking about this the other day as we were walking past Ripley's Believe It Or Not and my friend said he really missed Rock Circus which used to be there.

I really miss the London Planetarium as, as a kid I was obsessed with space and loved the films they used to project on the ceiling.

I was just wondering: are there any sites/buildings/attractions/clubs/etc. in London which sadly no longer exist that you really miss?

The old sega arcade inside the Trocadero. Was much better than the pitiful arcade space they got now. Also makes me wonder what's going on with all that empty space where it used to be...

Also miss when the restaurant/cafe in Hamleys was in the basement cause they used to do these taaaasty Sundays. With greeny-blue ice cream and candy bits on it. Num!!

Ohhh and the Warner Brothers shop that used to be on Regent Street. Was two floors and they had mugs and cels and teddies. Also some animatronic gremlins :D (they weren't for sale though).

+1 on the arcade in the Trocadero.

I miss routemaster buses, their removal from the streets was a sad loss for the city and a huge win for the safetyists who are slowly removing anything fun from the country to protect us all from ourselves.

It was difficult for disabled people to get on to them, but then it's almost impossible for me to park anywhere in central London whilst there are always 15 free disabled spaces, swings and roundabouts.

1. Safeway Stores

2. Harts the Grocer

3. Routemaster Busses

4. The East London Line of the Tube

5. Firkin Pubs (not because they were any good as pubs but because of their funny names)

6. The phone boxes in Chinatown that look like Pagodas

7. Chi Chi's Mexican restaurant in Whiteleys mall on Queensway.

8. Old style neon signs in Picadilly circus (such as the Foster's sign that used to be above the Sanyo and TDK signs or the Carlsberg sign that would look like it was pouring down beer)

Ahh Safeway. I liked it because when I lived in London I was trying to save money so that I didnt run out of it during the course of my studies. Safeway's no frills brand (called Safeway savers) was really tasty and better than the other no frills stuff out there at the time. The best deal was buying a can of baked beans for 9p. Their chocolate covered digestives were just was good as McVities IMHO. I loved the prepackaged Safeway brand wafer sliced ham as well...(I could go on and on).

While I was on holiday this past summer in London I visted my old Safeway on Edgware road (It is a Waitrose now I think) and it was like returning to my spiritual home of British food. I dont like how Waitrose rearranged it either.

Anyway that explains my love of UK Safeways.

Afraid so.

It closed its doors for the last time on Tuesday 28 July. It has been bought out by the 'Geronimo' chain and will be turned into a Gastro pub (to be called The Adam and Eve).
