To be honest, you can't say a whole area is 'safe' or 'unsafe' as it completely depends on where exactly you live in the area and how you conduct yourself i.e. if you walk around by yourself late at night holding a bulging wallet and new iphone, wouldn't fancy your chances in lots of places. Having said that, Greenwich has some lovely parts to it as is known for being a village-like place to live. I don't know Hatfield at all, but I guess that means that it can't have been in the news too much for being unsafe either, so probably a good sign?? I'd say just use your common sense once you're here; stick to licensed cabs, don't walk around late at night by yourself and keep valuables hidden, and chances are you'll be absolutely fine and have a great time living the London life!
