Can anyone please suggest the cheapest way to get from London to Reading and back? Thanks in advance

The cheapest way would be to walk ;)
That might take a while though so either the train or a bus. National Express buses from London Victoria would be around £15 if booked in advance. A day return from Paddington station to Reading on the train would be around the same.
