I applied to renew my irish passport 9 weeks ago and have been contacted today saying I've made an error on my form and they are sending it back to me ... why has it taken them so long?? ive a holiday booked with my kids on 1st August and am panicing .. is there any way i can speed up the process? I would go to dublin to get it but was told i couldnt get it over there as i live in the uk ... Help!!!!

A different country, but I got to the boarding gates at Heathrow a few weeks back only to be told I'd brought an old, expired passport with me (I have a german passport). They said that I could fly out to Germany on that one, but that I wouldn't be able to fly back with it. I took a bit of a chance and went out anyway and then got a temporary one issued whilst I was out there. It wasn't too much of a hassel really.
If you think about it, people lose their passports/get them stolen etc all the time, so there must be a way of issuing temporary ones more quickly than 9+ weeks!!

The Irish embassy in Dubliun can issue a Passport in 4 hours, I have a British passport as I live in NIreland and an Irish passport
