Anyone else watching this?

I really love this program, highlights for me are:

1. Monica's range of facial expressions in the skills test
2. The unnecessarily hyped entrance and long and awkward walk of Michel Roux Jnr

It seems that Greg Wallace is getting better at having an opinion different to Roux Jnr's this year, he's actively disagreeing with him now, which is nice to see :soapbox:

The problem with the show is that it's on whilst I eat my dinner, which generally looks a bit crap in comparison.

Your missus will be over the moon to hear that. :)

Also Monica's facial expressions rarely tally with what she says after - she frowns and looks generally vexed and then says "you did a great job Nige... great knife work, very impressed." So what's she contorting her face at?

Plus she's got Austin Powers' teeth.

Yeah, pleased to see Greg manning up to Roux... although sometimes his technical adjectives escape him... "That was................... yummy!"

Do you know when the actual final is for that? I've lost track a bit.. do LOVE the show though - so addictive!!

My other half seems to think the cooking talent permeates through the TV screen and bought 3 celebrity cookbooks last weekend... bearing in mind the usual repotoire is beans on toast, egg on toast or sardines on toast, I'm not convinced that a three course meal a la Jamie Oliver is on the cards just yet! Here's hoping though :confused2:

The right man won I think - very high standard this year, hope to see these 3 turn up in London's restaurants soon :)

Great series, well done the BBC

Anyone know where the winner "Ash" will be cooking? Might be worth a visit.

I'd really like to try that too... last year's winner (can't remember her name off the top of my head) has opened up her own restaurant I heard, although I think it's in the north somewhere so not too easy for me to get to :(

Loads of the past winners seem to have done pretty well. They had a judging panel on one series of MC where they invited back past winners and I recognised quite a few of them (and not just from seeing them on Masterchef). A few of them have their own restaurants and one of them is a celeb-type chef that has a spot on Lorraine on daybreak. It seems like a pretty decent launchpad for a career.

Ash was a freelance chef, wasn't he?

What's a freelance chef? Does he go round knocking on people's doors?
"Do you want your tea cooking?"

I guess he did events type work and cover for other chefs on a short-term basis... pure speculation though, I've never come across a freelance chef before either!
