I was a barmaid at the Grove Tavern many years ago.
Fabulous place run by Richard Dipple at that time.
I see that it is now a restaurant and would like to have any information leading up to when it changed.
Thank you!

Hello, I'm one of Richards daughters, he left there in the 80's. I've been back once but it was completely different. Which is a pity.

Thank you for your reply.
I only ever met his first daughter and then was there when he had his first son (don't know if he had more than one).
I went to work at Parkes Restaurant after that but have now been living in France for over 25 years with 3 daughters of my own! A lot of water under the bridge...

If you have the possibility, say that someone in France thought about him.

Thank you again for the update.

I would do, and he would have been thrilled, but he died last August. He had had a very bad stroke nearly ten years ago and had out lived all the doctors estimations! Which didn't suprise us at all because he was always so strong and bloody minded. We all miss him too much. But I know he's having a right old knees up wherever he is, being brave and brilliant and making the angels wet themselves with laughter, and only very occasionally losing his temper.

I'm very sorry to hear that he died. I'm absolutely sure that his absence leaves an enormous vide as he was such a personality (certainly in my days).
I suppose that the Grove Tavern was never the same anyway after he left so maybe it's better that it's a restaurant now.

Thank you for sharing personal information with me.
