I, Jorgen Naipaul, a lexicographer from Canada, welcome information from Contributors. I am looking for slang that is being used by ‘the man on the street’ - for instance: contemporary youth slang, urban slang, street slang, black slang, music slang, or any type of slang – particularly those you have used or may have heard.
Due to the fact that I have conducted exhaustive research – please do not refer me to websites, books, articles, etc.
Contributors will be acknowledged in upcoming publications, should their contribution/s be ‘fresh’ and fit the format outlined below.
Headword (or Phrase): e.g. “Awesome”.
Part of speech: e.g. noun, verb, adjective, adverb, etc.
Geographical origin: e.g. US, UK, Aus, NZ, Caribbean, Northern English, Scotland, Ireland, South African, India, Bangladesh, etc..
Meaning: (Definition)
Origin, if possible:
Typical users: e.g. students, teenagers, office employees, etc.
Example(s) of use: (a direct quotation or an invented example).
Any Extra Information: (where you heard it, in what context, how old it is (or a guesstimate), how widespread its use is, whether it is always used as an insult, a compliment, etc.)
If it is too much detail, the most important is the word and its meaning
and preferably its example of use.
All slang contributions can be sent to:
[email protected]
I would appreciate your input.
Regards,
Jorgen Naipaul
