Why is Malet Street so called?

Good question Pudding.
We've had a bit of a dig around but can't seem to find out. Surely someone reading this must know....

A lot of UCL and School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine are in that area and there have always been hospitals there - it may have something to do with early medicine, when they used to use archaic instruments like hammers, saws, drills and mallets?

Wikipedia lists several persons named Malet. Probably the likeliest are a William Malet who fought for William the Conqueror at Hastings, and another who was a signatory of Magna Carta in 1215.
Less likely is thje Genral Claude-Francois Malet who was executed in 1812 after organising an attempted coup against Napoleon during the latter's absence in Russia..

Is because the king of children's television in the 80s Timmy Mallet grew up there and as he was such a legend and loved by children all over, they re-named the street from Churchill Street to Mallett Street. But spelt it wrong because Barnslou did it while he was drunk.
