:Omg Yesterday (23/1)about 12pm i was walking through Trafalgar sq during lunch time and i saw the usual pavement art, which, if i'm honest i usually by pass, but there was stuff next to it so i looked, loads of postcards with pound coins attached!!!! no one around and a chalked sign saying something about 'take our money' plus a great big picture of a tomato. WEIRD. There were people around laughing at it, but no sign of the artist, there was loads of cash, and i'm ashamed to say i was too embarassed to take the money!!! It was advertising a website called cashtomato.com which seems to be some video sharing cash competition sight. Struck me as an odd way to advertise (and expensive!) but a whole load of people around reading it so maybe not so silly...anyway, just wondering if anyone else saw it, or if i'd had too many beers the night before and imagined it...Jojenks x

Wow! I think that's an amazing idea!! Seems to have gone to the artists/company's plan as well. The public have stopped and took notice of the art work. Great publicity that! I bet no one took the money though. Tis funny that in it? Typical english thing that. I bet if they did that in America, there'd be little money left :smug:

It's interesting, cuz in that situation it only takes one person to start picking it up and then it's likely there'd be a scramble for it! ;)
I don't know if I'd be the first, although I am the type of person to pick up money from the ground regardless of whether people can see..

Agreed, not many people would be the first one to try and pick up money from the floor in a crowded place. There have been too many of those TV shows embarrassing people by gluing money to the floor and filming them trying to pick it up - your natural instinct is that it's not as simple as it seems.

I remember dropping £30 in Woolworths when I was younger - I realised about 20 minutes later and rushed back to the shop, it was still there on the floor with a few people hovering around it but not actually picking it up.

I'd imagine the website owners were secretly hoping that no-one would actually go for it :)

Good idea though.

I think the people who placed the money there knew that no one would pick it up. Or the odd couple might. But as you say, it only takes one person to make that initial move for everyone else to think "Yeah, it's ok to pick up the free money." I think the problem is, is that we have had inplanted in us the saying, "Nothing is for free". And money is such an important, albeit common thing, that everyone wants it. Us english folk think it's not normal to leave money lying around and so think that there is probably some sort of consequence behind taking the money. I feel a Derren Brown moment coming on...
