Wondered whether anyone can help..

I've been giving my daughter organic baby meals with meat in them up until now, but feel as though I should really try and start making home-made meaty dishes for her. Only thing is as a veggie of 25 years have no clue where to start.

I bought some boneless Salmon steaks but am now not sure what to do with them - have some new potatoes and dill... can anyone help further? Obviously it's supposed to be baby-friendlyTongue

Thanks!

Sorry i haven't a clue what to do with Salmon, i've never eaten it before.
When my kids were small they liked chicken, cut up small with mash & veg.

Sausages boiled & then skin removed, mashed up a bit & mixed with mash was a favourite with my son. Personally i wouldn't eat a boiled sausage but my husband does & so do the kids. It just means the sausages are really soft & they don't have to chew on them for ages.

Sorry not being much help really.

Thanks for the suggestions...maybe i'll get some sausages next time i'm in the shops and then give them a go...less smelly than fish anyway!

You could try poaching fish.

I've steamed fish, poached it in milk & put it in the oven in foil & in some water.
The fish is softer & tastier when its been poached.
We tend to use coley, cod or haddock.

Fish, mash & parsley sauce is something my kids like.
Its all soft & you could add some soft veg if you wanted to as well.

I'm not really being much help am i :emb:

I gave the fish a go... put it in foil and then mixed it up with mash, sauteed spring onion and courgette. It went down a real treat!!!

Have to admit though that I also tried doing some mince with tomato & veg sauce. The little lady sucked all the sauce and veg off the spoon but spat out all the mince pieces. Even when I tried to put it in the blender so the bits were tiny she still spat it out????

Maybe I'll stick with the fish for now!

Thanks for all the tips - much appreciated!

My youngest is 2 & he does the same thing with the mince.
We keep giving it to him though in the hope he'll eventually eat it.
Glad the fish went down well :)

You could make things like Tuna or Salmon fishcakes.

Thanks Daisy!

If you are prepared to do a bit of research theres a book called " cooking for babies and toddlers" or some title like that, it is helpful an gives you loads of ideas. Hope thats been a bit of help. Good luck.

Just googled it and found a book by Sara Lewis - is that it?

I did buy Annabel Karmel who seems to be the guru on child nutrition and recipes, but was a bit miffed to find some of her recipes designed for v. young babies suggested adding food colouring for cakes!!!! I'm a bit of a health-freak as regards my daughter and so think out or principal I can't use AK's books again (she also adds sugar to lots of things quite quickly which I've avoided doing so far). This one looks good though - will check it out in Waterstones tomorrow.

Thanks

I don't know what kinda recipes your after but i bought a book called
'The Dinner Lady' by Jeanette Orrey.
Its the most used recipe book i have & i like it.
It doesn't have fancy things like Annabel Karmel. I have one of her books but never used any of the recipes. I want just normal food, not pizzas with faces on them made out of olives etc..... thats just too fancy for me lol.

I've just seen that Jeanette Orrey has a 2nd book which i'm now off to purchase :tongue2:
