We have made reservations for the Quality Crown Hotel Paddington for September. It is in the process of a major remodel. Has the remodel been completed? Has anyone stayed there recently? We have stayed in the Paddington Area the last 2 years and really like it there. Any info on the hotel would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Denise,

Welcome to The Knowledge.

It appears that the renovations at Quality Crown Hotel Paddington are due for completion this month or at the latest next month (June).

The refurb sounds very good, sounds like they've gone for a contemporary style design.

The hotel's in a great location for access to the West End, and of course Paddington which gives you easy access to the West of England. Have you tried a day trip to Bath? It's 1 hour 40 from Paddington and is well worth a day of your vacation.

Enjoy your stay in London.

All the best,

Team:

Thank you for your reply. I will keep checking on the hotel status incase I need to make a change before we arrive.

Yes, we did go to Bath last summer when there. Did several tours..Stonehenge, Avebury, Canterbury, Salisbury, Leeds Castle...

Going to be visiting friends again this year. Planning on being part of a pub quiz night and just enjoying the time in London. I especially like Hampton Court and plan on visiting there again. Also, being from landlocked Iowa, I hope to go to the coast and see an ocean. Will be looking for a place within a day trip of London I think. Any ideas?

Thanks again for your post,

Hi Denise,

The best place for you to visit the coast from London would be Brighton. It's a very well known UK coastal town and has many of the typical attractions you'd expect ie a pier, lots of tourist shops and some great fish and chip shops.

It's about an hour on the train from London and the trains run direct out of London Victoria and London Bridge.

Have a great time if you go.

All the best,

Sir ,
I am not sure if the Quality Crown Hotel Paddington is the same as one as the London Crown Hotel in Paddington but if it is the same, stay away from it by all means. The quality of the London Crown Hotel stinks!

Hi cheng_family,

Welcome to The Knowledge.

So I take it you had a bad experience with this hotel? It does appear to be the same hotel.

Looking on various other review websites it does seem to have some mixed reviews ranging from "worst hotel in the world" to "excellent hotel, excellent value".

If anyone's stayed there recently please let us know what you thought of it.

Best regards,

Howdy again.......

I have seen the bad reviews too, but decided to give the hotel a try as it was doing a total remodel. They are scheduled to re-open next week on August 1st....Fingers crossed !!!

I stayed there in March, 2001 and it was pretty bad. We stayed on the 5th floor and had no elevator. It was pretty rough dragging a week's worth of luggage for 3 up the narrow stairs. Hopefully the renovations have made it a better place to stay.
