Can anybody recommend/warn me off The Blue Elephant thai restaurant in the Fulham Road? I have been once before a long time ago and am thinking about it again. But the two restaurant reviews that I have read on this site have been awful. Were they just unlucky? Have you been there recently and what did you think?

Hi there,

I see what you mean about those reviews, they don't make it sound too good.

I've not been there but I have been to other restaurants that people have slated on websites.

If you click on the special offer on the restaurant page you'll go to toptable.co.uk, there seem to be some more favourable reviews on there.

Hope that helps,
Mogwai

I went there many years ago and felt that although the food was excellent, it was not particularly suitable for sharing (the typical way to enjoy South East Asian food) because the portions are so small. Each dish came with a relatively large garnish of ornately carved vegetable which rather distracted from the actual food itself.

The surroundings, atmosphere and service could not be faulted during my visit, but I have not returned since because I did not believe the food I ate, though well above average for UK Thai food, was worth the premium that you pay. I have enjoyed many Thai meals just as much at half the price.

I would recommend it if you are a real connoisseur of Thai food, and if someone else is paying. Otherwise go elsewhere. Authentic ingredients from Thailand are not so rare nowadays, and Blue Elephant's claim of flying them in daily no longer impresses.

I had a lovely meal there a few years ago, but for me it is too far to go. I would be interested if anyone can recommend a good thai that is more central in London as I promised a mate last night I would take him for one!!
