IMPROVISATION WORKSHOP

For women with some drama experience (how ever long ago!) Develop and improve your improvisation skills. You may wish to enrol on the whole day or one of the half day sessions.

DATE: Saturday 21st May 2005
TIME: 10am – 5pm
PLACE: Rehearsal Room, Oval House Theatre, Kennington Oval, SE11 (2-mins Oval tube)
FULL DAY: £50/£40 concessions
HALF DAY: £30/£20 concessions

10am – 1pm: Paola Cavallin will be running a 3-hour workshop where students will use improvisation to explore their own characters using leather Commedia dell’Artes masks. This workshop is very physical. Paola trained in Commedia dell’Arte in her home town, Venice (Italy), and worked as Pantalone, her mask, for several years in Italy. She also trained with Philippe Gaulier and Angela de Castro. In London, Paola has performed with Theatre Nomad, Shifting Sands and Kazzum. She is a regular collaborator at Rose Bruford College and at the International Workshop Festival in London teaching use of the mask, Commedia dell’Arte, devising, and Dario Fo?s Mistero Buffo. Paola also writes and directs shows for theatre companies and devises her own shows, in the past she has performed with Short And Girlie Productions. She regularly holds master classes in Bologna for the Italian lesbian community. Paola lives and works between Italy and London.

2pm – 5pm: Lheila Oberman will be running a 3-hour workshop in basic and intermediate skills in improvisation. Lheila is a trained actress and improviser. After qualifying as a primary school teacher, Lheila studied at Guildford School of Acting. She has worked extensively in various fields of performance including clowning, physical theatre, presenting and stand-up comedy. She studied improvisation with The Old Spontaneity Shop and trained in master classes with Keith Johnstone, also performing in "Keith Johnstone's Micestro" at the Cockpit Theatre, London. She worked for 3 years as drama teacher at Jigsaw Arts Performing Arts School and has taught street theatre and improvisation classes for Portsmouth New Theatre Royal and The Komedia comedy club. She is a regular performer at OFF THE CUFF.
