The Crooked Well hosts the inaugural Camberwell Free Film Festival

Calling all film buffs

Critically acclaimed Camberwell restaurant and bar The Crooked Well (www.thecrookedwell.com) is inviting film buffs to join them for an evening devoted to the art of cinematography. On Monday the 18th March, the venue will host a screening of Me and You and Everyone We Know for the inaugural Camberwell Free Film Festival (CFFF).

Taking place between 14th-24th March 2013 in venues throughout Camberwell, the CFFF is part of the award-winning South London community group Free Film Festival, run by volunteers. These special events will link movie themes with Camberwell locations, showcasing hidden gems of the silver screen, unearthing old classics and highlighting the rich cinematic history of the area.

The Crooked Well’s beautifully finished interior, combining oak floorboards, strong patterned wallpapers and luxurious seating provides a completely unique setting for an alternative film viewing experience. Guests will settle into the venue’s comfortable, rustic charm with church candles lighting up the exposed brick fireplace, providing a warm focal point and adding to the relaxed atmosphere.

Movie-goers will be able to indulge in decadent cinema snacks, with complimentary gourmet popcorn and hotdogs from The Crooked Well kitchen, which was recently awarded a place in the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide 2013. Guests can also order from the venue’s bar, choosing from a selection of carefully crafted cocktails, prepared with the restaurant’s own range of infusions, cordials and syrups.

Jen Aries, one of The Crooked Well’s founders and an actress of stage and screen herself, says: “We are delighted to be one of the host venues for the first Camberwell Free Film Festival. The area has a rich heritage of filmmaking and we’re looking forward to offering a very special cinematic experience for all those who join us on the 18th.”

Miranda July’s award-winning cult classic, Me and You and Everyone We Know will screen at 7.30pm at The Crooked Well. Tickets are free and include complimentary homemade popcorn and hotdogs. To book a place please contact The Crooked Well directly on 0207 252 7798.

About the Camberwell Free Film Festival

The Camberwell Free Festival will screen celebrated British classics such as Withnail and I (which cheekily references the legendary Camberwell Carrot) and Attack the Block (set in Camberwell’s infamous tower blocks), alongside brilliant international features, independent shorts, animated films and documentaries.

The Festival aims to encourage self-sustaining civic and community pride and to support local businesses with funding coming from Lambeth and Southwark Council as part of their “Camberwell is cool” initiative.

Other venues joining in the fun include the Salvation Army Building in Denmark Hill, Whirled Cinema, The Cambria, Cool Cats Café, House Gallery, the amazing Town Hall plus an outdoor screening at Myatt's Field Park.

Victor Ferreiro, festival organiser, community advocate and film fanatic says: “I created the Festival as an event which supports the local community, promoting Camberwell civic pride in a range of social spaces and introducing people to venues and architecture that they may not have seen or interacted with before”.
