AIL Meets Joe Pasquale

Jungles, ice rinks, West End stages; Joe Pasquale definitely keeps his working life fresh. The standup comedian, 2004 winner of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, twice Dancing on Ice contestant and current star of Monty Python’s Spamalot on the West End, gives us his guide to London.

The Best Theatre In London Is… The Playhouse Theatre, because it has become my home while I'm in Spamalot playing King Arthur. You feel a real connection with the audience and it's a really beautiful space.

The Most Romantic Place In London Is… It's got to be The London Eye on the South Bank. Being able to see all across the city and all the way down the Thames is breath taking, so it's lovely to share that experience with someone special.

The Best Area Of London Is… I love Covent Garden because I love all the hustle and bustle of the market areas, as well as all the street performers and the great cafes and restaurants that are all in such a close space to each other. And the buildings are beautiful too when you stand back and look at them.

My Favourite Museum Is… I've always been a fan of the Natural History Museum because there's something new to discover at every turn and on every floor. The giant dinosaur skeleton looming over you as you walk in always makes me gasp each time I go. I love that it's fun and it's educational all at the same time. And they do nice cakes in the café.

My Favourite Pub Is… I don't visit pubs any more as I've not had an alcoholic drink in over 15 years. But there are still some lovely old pubs in London that have been here since Victorian times and are full of history.

My Favourite Restaurant Is… I love going to a good Beefeater. There's nothing better than good, old-fashioned British grub.

When I'm Looking For Culture I Visit… The Tate Gallery is always fascinating and it's always amazing to be standing in front of some of the world's most famous paintings and see the brush strokes and true colours of the art work.

The Thing I Like Most About London Is… I enjoy the fact that in London I get to be in award winning musicals at beautiful theatres. Every night I go on stage at The Playhouse Theatre as King Arthur in Spamalot I feel blessed to be working with such a talented group of people in such a brilliantly funny and well written musical.

The Thing I Dislike Most About London Is… At the moment, it's got to be the weather. There's been so much rain I'm expecting some bloke to pop up claiming to be the 21st Century Noah and expect us all to jump on his ark.

Everyone should have been here/done this in London… I did the Virgin London Marathon 2011 to raise funds for Diabetes UK and it was an exhausting but brilliant experience and worth pushing myself for in return for the sense of achievement that I felt when I crossed the finish line. Everyone should do it at least once in their lives.
