Finsbury Park arouses mixed feelings, its proximity to Islington and the huge array of eateries and shops in the area makes it feel cosmopolitan, however it still seems a little suburban at times - there is little in the way of nightlife for instance - and high profile criminal incidents have made the headlines in recent years. Despite this the park is an important green space with football pitches, tennis courts and basketball courts, while you are able to sample Jewish, Asian, Turkish, Italian and Greek cuisine thanks to numerous bakeries, restaurants, fast food outlets and delis. Arsenal’s new Emirates Stadium is 10 minutes away from Finsbury Park station, while opposite, the North London Central Mosque has been the subject of much controversy regarding extremist activity.
