North Finchley is the area that links the sleepy, ultra-suburban Whetstone to the slightly more cosmopolitan Finchley; this small stretch around the Tally Ho Corner junction contains shops, restaurants and an arts centre offering theatre, music, dance and visual arts. There is a combination of terraced Victorian houses and more modern semi-detached constructions from the 1930s; generally speaking houses are more spacious than in inner London and have their own gardens. Despite the area’s shops and pubs there is a distinct lack of young people, as the district is popular with older residents due to its tranquillity and lack of council estates.
