Northwood is home to the headquarters of the British Armed Forces, a site they once shared with the RAF. A tragic crash in 1948 between a Scandinavian aircraft and an RAF plane flying over Northwood resulted in the deaths of all 39 passengers, an event that made headlines as Britain’s worst ever mid-air collision. Like neighbouring Pinner, Northwood is a fairly affluent area characterised by large properties with gardens and it’s a popular location for families or seeking the quiet comfort of suburbia. Apart from a few corner shops and takeaway eateries there is little to do but the Metropolitan Line links to London.
