Thamesmead West

Your All In London guide to Thamesmead West

This section of the Thamesmead Housing Estate falls under the borough of Greenwich, and is one of the more recent additions as construction began here in the 1990s, whereas the estate was initially built in the 1960s to house families who suffered from overcrowding in inner London slums. The Thames Riverside Walk runs through here, and as Thamesmead West is located a little distance away from the other developments, the nearest stations are Plumstead and Woolwich Arsenal, meaning transport links are slightly better compared to the rest of the estate.

Homes follow the same “brutalist” architectural principles, however there are a few terraced, purpose-built houses too. The multi-million pound investment programme which is underway in the area looks set to significantly improve local facilities and therefore quality of life of the local residents.
