All In London Review

A great experience...my daughter was most impressed by the loos!

Yes, it really is the sort of place you go for a treat. But a few years ago my son had his birthday party there and my daughter – being only five and a girl – was excluded from the fun. So it was time for her to have a look.

We adored going up the dark spiral staircase – especially when the cameras on the photographic mural started going off. My daughter posed appropriately – and I took a photo! We walked though the zebra decorated bar area which was – surprisingly – not that busy and the girls on the front desk took us through to our table.

It was busy – but not frantic. Unfortunately, they decided to sit us in the horror area and I was a bit worried how my daughter would react to models from Dracula, Hellraiser and numerous other nasties (“Gruesome”!) – but her eyes were fixed on the multiple screens around the place and the incredible décor – including blue carpets complete with planets. I encouraged her to go and have a look around. She came back with reports of suits of armour and motorcycles as well as props from lots of films. She didn’t go into the James Bond area but peered at it from the entrance. She really enjoyed the wall hand prints – which trigger the voices of their owners and soundtracks from their films – Antonio Banderas, Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone amongst them.

She was also most impressed by the loos. Not just because they were an unusual bright design with huge spectacles but because there was a lady in there providing soap and towels. It was nice to watch the numerous groups around us celebrate their birthdays with singing from enthusiastic staff and messages appearing on the big screens. Zak, Alfie and Kelly Marie were celebrating. The DJ worked hard – mixing some classics (David Bowie, Queen and T Rex) with more modern music including Kate Nash, Mike and 50 Cent.

So while we waited for our drinks and food to arrive there was plenty to amuse us – not least the word games and puzzles on the place mats. We shared some nachos. My daughter then worked her way through a large slab of ribs – and couldn’t manage all the fries. I had a reasonable noodle dish with mange touts, king prawns, chilli and ginger. A coke, a glass of wine and some water and the bill came in at £52. Not cheap but then again it WAS an experience being there.

Whilst waiting to see Fame in Londons West End I took the opportunity to visit the Planet Hollywood Restaurant in Londons Shaftsbury Square.
On entering the restaurant we met the head waiter who was very friendly and polite towards us.He showed us to our table and handed us menus from which we could choose from a varied choice of meals.
The Restaurant was an interesting place to visit because it had a continuous roaming camera which projected your image to make it look as if you were dining with some of Hollywoods Hottest Stars.
Our food order was taken quickly and we enjoyed some cool drinks whilst listening to some music as we waited for the food to arrive. When it arrived the food was appetising and had plenty of flavour to it. After finishing our meal we were able to walk around the upstairs area which held memorabilia from some of Hollywoods greatest Blockbuster films. Overall this restaurant provided everything I would want in a restaurant. It provided:- Staff who were very polite and would check that everything met your expectations,an affordable bill, food that didn't lack in flavour, it is suitable for the whole family, a wide range of food on the menus, the restaurant is very clean and homely. I would give Planet Hollywood a rating of 10/10 stars. You will not be disappointed if you decide to dine at this restaurant.

I went to this restaurant with my friends for my 16th. I loved it the service was great, the food tasted amazing but the best thing was the atmosphere. Everyone was happy and lively and the DJ announced my birthday which made me feel special. Its a little pricey (about £15 per head plus quite a high service charge)so it should only really be used for special occasions Definetely visit it as least once.

I took two young french children who were visiting London for the first time, we got a table at 7.00 the service was so bad and the wait so long between courses (they actually forgot our dessert order we reminded them twice with no effect and the three people assured us it was coming soon.
We finally left the restarant at 9.30, it is no wonder people wait so long for a table, with more efficient service the turnaround would
be much faster. The children got bored and restless.
On a more positive note, they enjoyed the food (when it finally arrived) and the childrens menu was good value, especially the bottomless soft drinks.

Planet is a great place to go as a family, maybe before a movie or show in London. It's got a good atmosphere and there's always some interesting memorabilia to keep all the family entertained.

The food is ok, although not the cheapest, and being an American chain, portions are on the large size.

Some evenings can be incredibly busy so it's worth calling to see if you can reserve a table, or you'll have to endure quite a wait.

It's well worth it as part of a family night out.
