Love this place, the food & the owners! It's a little gem & I wish I had something like this where I live - still it's a good excuse to go visit my parents & take them out for good food & wine! Can't wait to go there tonight to celebrate another Birthday!

What a wonderful place! Just what everyone needs in the days where you struggle to find something privately owned and individual. Ancora is everything that a local restaurants should be, personal, indivual, it has atmosphere and the food is supreme.
My father and I took my mother there for her birthday, only to discover she had been there the night before with her mother.
Great value for money, and the food, wow.
What fantastic food. The tiger prawns to start were delightful.
A wine list to suit every taste and the manager/ owner always on hand to give advice.

Please go support one of the last bastions of great local restaurants. It's not a chain and it's not owned by a celebrity chef trying to charge the earth for average food.

The food is great and the atmosphere is perfect for every occasion.

I have never been inclined to write a review before, but I must say that this little place deserves all the promotion it can get. The owner looks a tad worried and who can blame him when on a Saturday night the place is only half full. I'm not sure how long Ancora has been open, but Sheen Lane seems to be a very hard place to run a successful restaurant... Many have gone, through no fault of their food or service. Even the best fish & chip shop in the area recently closed.
Anyway, on to Ancora. As none of us were particularly hungry, we decided to go straight to main courses - 2 Sirloin steaks, 1 Sea Bass & 1 Pasta. After a suitable period our food arrived on hot plates, nicely presented and smelling wonderful - both steaks were cooked to perfection - one medium-rare, one rare and cut like butter - both of us were delighted. The Sea Bass was exceptionally fresh (as confirmed by my Adriatic friend who grew up with nothing but just caught fish). The pasta was served with the most succulent Mozzerella I have ever tried.
All in all, a super find, great food, good service and prices that are not silly, but reflect the quality of this excellent food. The bill was £110 + service for 4 mains, veg & salads, 4 bottles of wine.
My only negative - house red not to my taste, but moving up by a couple of £'s gave us a very quaffable red... and quaff we did - a thoroughly enjoyable night. We will be back - frequently!
