First and only time visiting this restaurant. Bad atmosphere, staff got our order wrong because they didn't feel the need to write the order down. Service was incredibly slow and food was clearly reheated, full of grisly fat despite ordering the more expensive sizzling steak beef. Way too over priced for the small portions of food you receive. Yes it's eat as much as you like but the portions are child like and if you end up ordering more, then expect to wait another half hour in between and that's when it's not busy. Would not recommend this so called restaurant to anyone!

Restaurant is a nice small well run operation and one of the main weaknesses of many Ch/restaurants is poor service but the service was exceptionally good here. It is on the pricey side but quality of food is good. We had a lovely seafood platter followed by about 5 dishes on top - glass of red and a soft drink set us back just over £40 (bill includes 10% service charge).

I have to disagree with the bad reviews on here, having been a customer for a number of years now the food is out standing considering it's a eat as much as you like, all cooked fresh to profection and piping hot to your table, and the good thing about it if you like something your can just reorder it (like the green beans or honey chicken), the restaurant can get very busy but surely that's a good sign. I have been on a singers night and it was loud but still enjoyable whilst eating. They recently changed it around in there which seems to work much better. We have recommended this restaurant to so many people and not one person has been disappointed, I must say that I have also been there when the service has been a bit slow, but never been a major problem. The menu is perfect something for everyone. :-) beats any buffet style restaurant for the same sort of money as I've always found the food dry and tasteless and I'd never eat in another Buffett style Chinese again. Enjoy :)

I go to a lot of restaurants, and rarely go to the same one twice as there are so many out there to try - with the exception of the royal china. They do an eat-as-much-as-you-like a la carte option, which is the most worthwhile. The mixed hors d'oeuvres to start are totally mourish, then duck, then if you have room the mains. Unlimited king prawns, oysters, mussels, all cooked to perfection. The food is lovely, the service could be a little better but when they're running around like blue a**e flies it's to be expected. When you get a music night it's packed to the rafters and a great night, and the drinks are not extortionate, but they do need to make money back somewhere alopng the long, especially with some peoples appertites who visit. An all round good restaurant, and in my opinion the best all you can eat in Cheam, miles better than the dragon or the emperor, with a better selection. They also now do a thai option which just makes it even more appealing.

Went to the royal china for a christmas party with a group of 9 people. Was very disappointed with the poor service, possibly the worst service i have ever had. Waited 45 miniutes for our 1st drink. Was told by the waitress that we were too busy chatting when she came to take our drinks order so it wasn't her problem. Each dish was a portion for one person and we had to share between 9 of us!!! 2 small bowls of nice and 1 small dish of noodles for 9 people to share. The attitude of the manageress was absolutely disgusting. We where also charged an extra £10 on top of our £285 bill as we booked for 10 people but only 9 were able to make it. I would not recommend The Royal China and will never go back here!!! All of us left starving!!

Our party of four adults and two children ate at the Royal China on 10/7/10, and totally disagree with Anonymous, posted 9/5/10. If his portions were meagre, he only had himself to blame - why order a set menu when for £16.50 you can order as much as you want from the a la carte Chinese and Thai menu? We feasted on the usual starters (prawn toasts, spare ribs, pancake rolls, seaweed etc), and some more unusual dishes (e.g. green beans dry cooked), as well as shellfish, including mussels prepared in several different ways, giant prawns, and scallops cooked on the shell. We then went on to soup (the Thai chicken with coconut was especially good), followed by crispy duck with pancakes, and finished with main courses. Only one person could manage a desert. The food was freshly cooked, delicious, plentiful, and phenomenal value for money, and the service was welcoming and efficient. We enjoyed a relaxed, leisurely, and special meal, and the children loved being able to try lots of different things. No wonder the restaurant was packed! We will definitely return, and would happily recommend the restaurant to friends.

Recently visited this restaurant to celebrate a 40th birthday. We ordered from the set menu. In terms of quality, we found the food to be distinctly poor overall. Unfortunately the disaspointment of the food was compounded by the extremely small portions that were served (also mentioned by another reviewer). You don't expect to have count out the pieces of each dish before passing it around! The most amazing thing about the evening was that the restaurant was full to capacity! Would I go back? Most definitely not. There are plenty of alternative Chinese restaurants in the area offering much better quality dishes and portions that represent fair value for what one is paying. It's a shame The Royal China isn't one of them. Maybe they should consider maximising their portions and the quality of their food instead of their profits!

The Royal China is one of my favourite local places to eat. For £16.50 you can eat as much as you like from a large and varied menu. As a student this is expensive but it's worth it. You can try new dishes as well as eat your old favourites. Normally when I order we have starters then duck then mains but you can have as many courses as you like! If you like a dish and want more then you just ask for more and they bring it to you very quickly. Service is good, the people are very friendly. Drinks are expensive but this place is all about the food. I particularly recommend the spring rolls, lamb wrapped in duck, special friend rice and kung pu prawn.

I have just come home after a meal at the Royal China, North Cheam. The entertainment was a fantastic Elvis tribute act a guy called George who was brilliant but unfortunately the restuarant fell woefuly short of that. The six of us opted for the £16 a head menu - Menu B. For that £16 I had one spare rib, a chicken satay stick with sauce, a very small spring roll and some crispy seaweed. Then a couple of lettuce leaves with chicken and mushroom mixture which was tasty but not very filling. For the main course I don't even think there were enough prawns for us each to have one, a few pieces of beef in black bean and a couple of bits of sweet and sour chicken. One of the waitresses was so sullen she literally threw my plate across the table and when they brought the hot towels we were one short - only five between the six of us. Then they had the nerve to give us a dessert menu! I left before my coffee and certainly would not recommend the restaurant to anyone
