I recently discovered this restaurant through a friends birthday and was plesently surprised and have now made this my No 1 restaurant to visit.using the top table offer with a 50% discount on the food and the drinks so reasonably priced I defy anyone to find a better value and high quality restaurant anywhere in London.
I have since been back their 3 times in week and it just gets better and better and I have had different dishes each time and the service surpasses any other Chinese restaurant in China town.

We went to Plum Valley for a friend’s birthday & we were utterly disappointed. I have often walked past Plum Valley which never fits in with your regular Chinatown restaurant since it deems itself as Chinese fine dining. I was looking forward to this visit and I have to say it wasn't worth the anticipation.

Upon arrival we were told that our party of 6 which had turned into 7 would not be able to take advantage of the 50% discount on food from Top Table even though we explained that our one friend was only having drinks therefore she wouldn't be having any food. The best the manager could do would be to give us 25% off our food instead of the 50% advertised on top table.

Two of our starters arrived & the other four followed after ten minutes & even then a few of the items were luke warm. The prawn toast was tasteless and greasy. The best starter was the steamed dim sum which came with the mixed platter.

As one of our friends were still eating her starter the server came to remove her plate while she was still eating! We were horrified to see her trying to swallow her food since it seems they were ready to serve the main course which arrived a minute after.

I ordered the grilled black cod which I read in other reviews to be their signature dish. I couldn't eat most of it as it tasted very fishy and was luke warm. The best dish was the prawn with chili and Thai basil but even that was nothing spectacular.

I spoke to the server to let her know that the cod was very fishy and didn't taste fresh. We also asked to speak to the manager as she was in a meeting before and couldn't speak to us regarding the discount issue. When she arrived she explained that the fish is caught fresh & then frozen and therefore perhaps that was the reason why it wasn't so "fresh". She agreed that it was not up to scratch and offered to take it off the bill.

We expressed our disappointment on the service and food as well as how they dealt with the dis

We tried this restaurant only a week ago and we have to give it 10/10 according to our experience. The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated, a little dark but trendy and very comfortable. We ordered a dim sum platter to share and it was just delicious, we then tried the grilled black cod with champagne sauce, stir fried duck and spicy king prawn, they were all amazingly good! Even our chinese friend thought the food were excellent. The service was efficient and attentive. Price was actually quite reasonable for this kind fine dining restaurants. Definitely going back in future!

There's only one word to describe this place : rubbish !
After a lovely evening watching a musical we want to polish of our evening at a fine dining place with a bit of privacy. So we came across Plum Valley.

From the outside the place looked posh, menu certainly looked the part.
They claim that thier chef is well known from guangzhou in China.
I checked the reviews on my iphone just to be sure.
However it was all too good to be true.... not only had the online reviews let me down but my own judgement failed !

I ordered a bottle of french white to get things going and three starters- The chilli tofu, dimsum platter, veg spring rolls, chicken satay.

The waiter ordered us the wrong platter and then forgot the wine. The tofu wasnt deep fried as confirmed with the waiter, it was actually microwaved in a smelly sauce. On complaining the waiter described it lighty fried !

The Dim Sums and Spring Rolls were average and the chicken satay were rubbery and seemed to have been picked up from the buffet joint next door.

The mains of chicken was exactly the same as the satay... unedible and unfresh.

The only decent dish was the thai prawns in basil and chilli ... not even a chinese dish !

The bill came upto 80 pounds for two and included the added a service charge.

I couldnt believe that thier card machine then had the "add gratuity ".

Did they really think I had the tax payers to blow away ???

Im a frequent traveller to Guangzhou in China and let me tell you this place would be shut down in a day..... with thier untrained waiters and sloppy cooking.

Lessons of the day like Brick Lane doesnt have authentic indian... China town isnt the place for authentic chinese food and plum valley is the probably the worst out there.

Have your say
