Went to this restaurant Friday evening 4/11/2011. My sister and 4 nieces were over for a trip from Ireland, one owns property in Italy therefore is fairly well acquainted with the cuisine, I have to admit I have always been underwhelmed with Italian food in Britain.
What a pleasant surprise we all had. The staff are extremely friendly we wanted a table for 6 so we waited a while for this to be sorted out, it was with the minimum of fuss. The interior is bare bricks with beautifully coloured lights with more of a middle eastern feel but lovely regardless.
The menu isn't too long has all the staples with an extensive Pizza list but very traditional, we ordered a variety of drinks and starters from anti pasti, bruschetta and goats cheese bruschetta, the plates were full of goodies from the items themselves to a wonderful rocket salad accompaniment, really delicious every one, the anti-pasti plate was laden with a wonderful assortment of Italian cured meats. The bruschetta were over flowing with juicy warm tomatoes.
On to the mains I had pasta meatballs, others had carbonara, salads, garlic bread(amazing), beautifully rich primavera and aglio-olio, none of them failed to please, fresh as can be all individual and very filling we had to ask for doggy bags.
Coffee was ordered and some grappa was presented to aid our digestion. The evening could not have been better. I highly recommend this little gem of a place, Whitecross st is fast becoming a food mecca along with its vibrant daily market this should not be missed, the bill was an added bonus 6 of us all ate and drank for under £100.00...
