Tourists and Locals: Avoid Taormina Italian Restaurant in London!
How the romantic dinner for 2 in Taormina Italian Restaurant, London, turned out to be a huge disappointment for 2.
Being a total novice to vouchers and coupon discounts, I have purchased a promo voucher for "£19 for a two-course Italian meal for two at Taormina worth up to £47.50 - save up to 60% on main courses, desserts, wine and coffees!" . In anticipation of a romantic dinner and fine Italian cuisine, my boyfriend and I went to Taormina on Friday evening only to learn that this would be a total disaster. It only took another 10 minutes for an extremely unpleasant experience to unfold. (Tip to all: when you get to an Italian restaurant on Friday, 7pm and find it empty – beware, it’s not a good sign.)
Instead of a warm welcome that you get from the host, their staff told us that the offer is not valid on Fridays despite the fact that we reserved and mentioned the discount a night before. Then they told us the promotion is only valid for pasta and pizza and a bottle of vine - absolute shock to us considering that none of this was advertised neither on the offer nor on the website. So the non-so-friendly staff was arguing with us saying that they have no idea about this promotion (!) and is not going to recognize it. We asked to speak to the manager who was available only by phone and when explained the situation he said that he also no idea about this offer and that "we are trying to steal from him!"
Lastly, we decided to leave the place and asked for the £19 back that we paid through your website - and they completely refused to compensate us stating that they got no money from this promotion.
Our advice – stay away from it!

We ate at the restaurant midweek and found in to be a very positive experience. The staff were attentive and the food was first class.
We will certainly be happy to return and would recommend it to our friends

We visited this restaurant on Saturday 27 June 09, and really wished we hadn't bothered. The staff were polite but indifferent. They had no avocadoes (?) so I couldn't have the starter I wanted. I chose a different starter but my husband's arrived first, and he had finished his by the time mine arrived (in fact we had to remind the staff that I hadn't had my starter!) My main course had to be sent back and again returned from the kitchen when my husband had long finished his meal. On looking at the dessert menu we were disappointed to see the desserts were all "pre-packed". We asked for zabaglione (on the menu) but were refused!!! Never again, I'd rather go to McDonalds quite honestly.

On a recent trip to London, I had lunch at this restaurant . The bill came to 56 pounds and I would safely say it was the worst money I have spent all year. The service was unfriendly to the point of being agressive. My friend was served veal when she had ordered chicken, the waiter then asked if she was sure that really wanted chicken ! She has moral objections to eating veal. In all a poor dining experience.

Taormina Restaurant is by far my favourite in London.

I am a huge fan, and somewhat of an expert taster of Italian food.
I was expecting it to be just another run-of-the-mill joint, but was stunned by the quality of the food and service.

The pasta dishes are bautifully cooked and presented, the seafood is perfectly cooked every time.
The staff are friendly and cheerful.

My only negative comment is that the wine list is quite lacking.

Great place, great food.
Have your say
