About: Momo is a mix of traditional and cosmopolitan cool - the restaurant, the Kemia bar and Mo Cafe exude the laid back style and cuisine of North Africa and the Mediterranean that has been brought by Parisian-Algerian restaurateur Mazouz who originally opened on the Heddon Street site in 1997. Today his guests can relax in the Souk like atmosphere and enjoy the sumptuous surroundings over a cocktail or mezze selection; the restaurant offerings are skilfully prepared by Chef Philippe Agnello and remain true to Mazouz's original vision. Private events and group bookings are welcome.

Momo Restaurant features in these AIL lists...

Our favourite venues for dinner and a dance
Enjoy traditional North African dishes like wood pigeon pastilla, stuffed aubergines and of course, tagine before heading downstairs for a dance. The restaurant’s bar won the Evening Standard ‘Bar of the Year’ award in 1997, and after 15 years Momo remains one of London’s most renowned restaurants.

Most beautiful restaurants
As well as owning Momo Mourad Mazouz is the proprietor of Sketch, therefore he knows a thing or two about décor.Momo encompasses a souk-inspired café complete with brass lanterns and low tables, while the restaurant stays faithful to the theme with arched Moorish windows and dim lighting.

Winter terraces
The café at Momo is a cornucopia of Moroccan tables and beautiful hanging lanterns, while the heated terrace is a cross between a Parisian café and an English garden. Ideal for taking afternoon tea and smoking sheesha among the palm trees.

African restaurants
If asked to name a restaurant that serves African food, most Londoners will mention Momo, the glamourous Heddon Street eatery serving North African tagines and wood pigeon pastilla. There’s also a Moorish-inspired terrace for smoking shisha and a nightclub in the basement.

I truly enjoyed my expereience at Momo. The food was delicious and even it was a very busy night our waiter did really look after us.
We had drinks and sheesha outside before diner and after and we spotted few celebrities while there. Definately the place to be!

What appalling service! My friend had not been told when she booked that we would be unceremoniously chucked out after 2 hours (though the waiter insisted that she had). We were dumped at an uncomfortable table in the cafe after our 2 hours were up.

As well as being treated so rudely, I found the toilets pretty poor. In the main restaurant, the toilet was extremely ill lit and with a dangerous step leading to the loo - which didn't flush.

In the cafe area the loo was overrun with beetles.

The food wasn't bad, but for that price you'd expect to be treated a lot better.

Don't go there!

My first 30 mins experience at Momo is not what I called great customer service. I was in the middle of explaining to one of the managers that I am awaiting for my friends when 4 other members of Momo's management team got into a 2-3mns conversation in French which I perfectly understood. They were talking 'profits'

None of them was polite enough to stop their chat while I waited. They even looked at me while having this chat. I was then left to wait in the entrance, nobody offered for me to take a seat while I waited.

When I enquired if it is indeed possible to have a seat, the waitress had to check with the manager to see if that's ok. As soon as I sat, the drink list was presented to me and another french speaking waiter made a rude comment to another guy as to whether I was there to admire the menu!

I waited for my friend's arrival and because we have long planned to go out on that particualr day, I tried to enjoy the decor and food which are very nice. The waitresses inside was much nicer and courteous.

I will not be going back there again!

Went to Momo for a friend’s birthday party. What a truly great place for a birthday bash, the atmosphere was wonderful. The staff were welcoming and informative and the food was very good. I had the amazing pan fried scallops for starters followed by a lamb tagine with fluffy couscous. Great atmosphere, food and wine 10/10.

We wanted to celebrate our anniversary in style and decided to head to the famed Momo to see if it lived up to its reputation and it certainly did. The restaurant is wonderfully atmospheric and felt a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of central London. For starters, I went for the crispy sardines (so delicious) and for my main course, a great chicken couscous. My other half had the chicken tagine - another hit. We washed down our food with a tasty Moroccan red called El Baraka Réserve. A great meal and a memorable anniversary.

I always liked the look of Momo's and decided to meet a close friend there for dinner. From the word go, the staff are clearly there to maximise profits by rushing you along every course whilst making almost risible attempts to make you spend more (asking if you want another glass of wine when your glass is 3/4 full, if you want dessert in the middle of your meal!). As you near the 90 minute mark of your meal, rudeness and harrassment are employed to get you out by the allocated 2 hours.
In short the decor is lovely, the food above average but only go there if you don't mind being rushed, cramped and leaving with the distinct feeling of having been fleeced. Or go to Morocco instead...
