Med Kitchen’s Xmas menu is hit and miss
The plus points of the Richmond branch are the low prices and the idyllic location (overlooking the river, with a conservatory area that surely comes into its own in the summer) but the food proves to be a little hit and miss. Take for instance the gravadlax, slices of fragrant dill-encrusted smoked salmon accompanied by a lemon potato salad with no flavour. Similarly the tender pork belly with crispy skin comes with a shot of cider and chunks of cold stewed apple that just don’t work.
We’re far luckier with the main courses; a meaty swordfish steak has a smoky chargrilled aroma and the crunchy broccoli and crushed new potatoes are good pairings. The rib eye steak is equally tasty and comes with green beans and a gigantic serving of thin fries. When it gets to dessert we’re disappointed once again; the mince pies are cold and the brandy cream is merely a slab of hard butter, but the meal is redeemed with a comforting, steaming-hot bowl of cinnamon apple crumble with vanilla ice cream.
It’s the first night of their festive menu so perhaps there are teething issues, but there’s little doubt this simple menu will be a hit with corporate dos.

We had a Christmas meal at the Mediterranean Kitchen in Richmond and it was excellent. The restaurant is right by the river and Richmond Bridge – great location. The staff were very attentive and the food was delicious – the pork belly starter was a particular highlight! We really enjoyed ourselves and would certainly recommend it. We will definitely be going back soon!
